IMO you can't get too caught up in what other teams are doing until the last few weeks of the season. As long as the Jets start winning more than they lose (6 points in 5 games) we just might find ourselves in the hunt. Since last week's Wings game and then what we saw this weekend I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about this team.

ok this made me laugh. I was talking to a guy at the game on Friday mentioning that from about 14 games out last season to 18 games in this season if feels like the teams we are chasing don't lose

For now I am not going to worry about the other teams in our division and remain content with good effort and solid results and focus on this chart. My hopes are we can string together about 3 weeks where we are above the line in our 5 game sets.

play good hockey, enjoy the games for what they are, and chip away a bit (edit: kind of like what King Bogo said)

KingBogo and ps241 - agree completely. The regression thought has crossed my mind, but the Jets just have to take care of their own business. They can't control what the other teams are doing.

Onward and upward! Up 'n Atom! And all that jazz.

How about concentrating on one game at a time? Carpe diem.

I agree that every game is important and we must 'seize the day', but I thought it would be interesting to track what has typically been a good indicator of playoff pace. It's not like the players are paying attention to this silly little thread.

Missed the game, saw the shootout. Chart-type thing below. Now only 4 pts out. Nashville, Colorado, Anaheim lose tonight, St. Louis tied as I type this. LA only one point. Good night to make up ground in the West.

Well... on the negative side, we are now at the sample where Fenwick becomes pretty predictive...

Went from 4 pts behind after Game 20 to 5 pts behind after Game 21 tonight, even with the win. The Western teams keep winning, and made up a game in hand since the Jets last played.

Updated: still headed in the right direction.
Edit: thanks tofurkey - updated to correct the W's to SOW's where appropriate.

Gotta beat Calgary, as well as at least one of those games against Minny - preferably in regulation.

Thanks for the update YWG. Trend is good right now.

BTW, you are missing three SOW on the table: DAL 2-1; SJS 5-4 and DET 3-2.

This is my new favourite thread. I view this instead of the NHL standings since it really doesn't matter how the other teams are performing when you know what they need in total points at seasons end to make playoffs. Thanks for this and please keep it updated.

The good news... the last 10 games, we've been 6-4-0, i.e. averaging 6 points per 5 games, which seems kind of appropriate for this thread.

The bad news... remember the tail end of last season, when our competitors were winning like crazy? The 2 wild card teams, Minnesota and LA, have been 8-1-1 and 7-2-1 respectively. If this keeps up, we're doomed.

Yup. But I don't think it will - for instance, the Wild will lose 2 of their next 3 or 4 (they play the Jets )

Someone's going to regress a bit at some point. If not, this season will be 'historic', and that would at least be very interesting.

Yup. All you can do is worry about winning your own games. It is crazy making to worry about what other teams are doing until you get do the last few weeks of the season.

The western conference playoff line is now up to 1.35 pts/gp (LA). When's it going to start regressing? We're up to 1.05 pts/gp, but would need to win 10 more in a row to get up to 1.35 pts/gp.
