From George Richards of the Miami Herald:
Quote:
PHILADELPHIA -- The Panthers lost veteran goalie Tim Thomas to what is called a slight groin pull in the opening period of Tuesday night's game.
Quote:
"I don't think it's anything longterm but we'll evaluate him [Wednesday] and see where he's at,'' coach Kevin Dineen said.
Read more here: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/flapa...#storylink=cpy

Obviously we'll have a better idea next couple of days, but I get the sense that it's a very minor injury.

Hurt or not, Markstrom needs to be the starter for this team.

He's not ready for that yet. Yesterday was the first time he looked relatively solid in net for a long, long time. Last season was a disaster for him where he was pulled every other game, as was his effort in the game before this when he let in 2 goals in 7 shots.

IMO it's getting close to "now or never" for Markstrom.

This team realistic expectations are low, no point in giving more playing time, if any to Clem, and it's time to see how Markstrom does.

Lol your joking right? So when will he be ready when he's a free agent?

It's his time.

You can't go by last season.

Your D and F were desimated by injuries. He was hung out to dry many nights. Yet he still had a stretch of 8-9 games in a row where he was very impressive.

Keep in mind that most goalies don't become a #1 until their mid 20"s or after. Markstrom is 23. Even guys like Price, who is 26, are still trying to find more consistency. So you cannot expect Markstrom to come in and be a consistent performer immediately...that takes time and experience and a better D in front of him would help(D is young too). So I would let him play more but just not judge him so much when he does make a mistake. I'm not sure if he has even faced every NHL team yet and most of them he has only faced once. Every game he will learn and adjust.

Minor groin pull. With his age, he could be out a little bit longer. But we have markstrom to rely on. He played well in relief last night.

What are you talking about? He is ready, and its his time now. This team needs to be built around him, not an aging Thomas. He should be given every opportunity to be this teams starter, not a 39 year old who came in after year off. Thomas' Hasek-like style is not what this team needs right now, nor are we built to support that type of goaltender. Thomas should get around 25-30 games this season, nothing more.

Was last night the first time you've seen Jacob play? He usually let's the first few shots go in before he gets his head in the game.

Our offense wasn't built to support Markstroms growing pains.

That's the reason he's not ready to be a full time goalie in the NHL.

Can you try to provide at least one reason why he should be starting? Because I don't see one in your comment.

And our defense isnt built to support Thomas' unorthodox style. Ive seen Markstrom play plenty, thank you very much, and he deserves to get more work than Thomas. He is younger, more positionally sound, has a better glove, taller, and quicker. He has all the skill to be a great goaltender in this league, and he needs games to grow his game, and build experience.

And what is your excuse for Markstrom not being ready, because he let in some early goals last season? Like he was the only reason why we were horrible last year. How do goaltenders become better, by sitting on the bench?

I'm with ya on all of it...except he wasn't any of the reasons we were bad last season at all.

Houser above Grumet-Morris. He doesnt have a NHL contract, right?

I don't know, I was under the impression Grumet-Morris was getting more playing time as the #1 in San Antonio, be odd if not. I know Houser was here during training camp so maybe. Couldn't find a proper depth chart for them. Either way, let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Houser is on an ELC. DGM is on an AHL deal.

DGM is the starter and Houser is his backup.

He was in the net taking shots from Tallas after practice today, so I would think so if the groin doesn't get worse.

You don't sign goalie of Thomas' status and age to play 1/4th of the games.

Markstrom has currently the opportunity to prove himself without the pressure of being the make-or-break guy.
