Ron MacLean : Crosby

http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Winnip...34064-sun.html

Quote:
As it pertains to Thursday's NHL draft lottery, MacLean has been experiencing a sense of deja vu.
"One of the first was back in 1971 when Gilbert Perreault went to Buffalo," he said. "I've get a hunch Crosby might be going to Buffalo. It's a funny feeling that I have."

For some strange reason, when I first read that I thought "Now I feel better about our chances." Then I thought that over, and it occurred to me that this has no bearing on the results of the actual lottery.

I need to get more sleep.

I have that feeling as well, mostly because not too many people have been talking about Buffalo as a destination for him. More talk about NYR, CHI, LA, NSH, CLM, etc.

Good luck guys!

As a Habs fans, which means a fan of a divisional rival, it wouldn't be good for my team to see you get him, but I'd be happy if I did because I think Buffalo would be a great city for Crosby to end up.

So may I wish you the best of luck, as long as we still finish in front of you in the North-East standings.

It's good that the lottery happens before any qualifying offers and free agency begins, because it would likely change the whole complexion of the roster.

For instance, I would then definitely keep both Grier and Pyatt. I was thinking of line combinations, and assuming that for the years going forward, we'd like to have scoring from 2-3 lines. We might be able to dangle both Satan and Drury for defensive help.

Hecht - Briere - Dumont is a given -- probably this years first line
Grier/Pyatt - Crosby - Afinogenov -- Grier/Pyatt taking a protector/banger role, and Crosby and Afinogenov providing offensive dazzle.
Vanek - Roy - Grier/Pyatt -- Not much of an offensive dropoff from the above line, but with a touch more physicality.

Bang. Three lines that can score, with a defensively capable first and third line -- maybe all 3 if Max continues on the road he was on last season.

Fill the fourth with bangers, like Peters - Gaustad - Thorburn, and we've got a physical team of forwards that can score.

When needing a goal late in the game, we could throw out a line of Vanek - Crosby - Afinogenov -- how could that not light the lamp?

Is there somewhere where you can place a bet on Buffalo to win the draft lottery? If so, it might be worth putting some money on it.

That way if the Sabres miss out you'll win some money back whereas if they win you won't care about the money because Crosby will be coming to Buffalo. It's a win-win situation.

You could even think of it (in a strange way) that you're paying money to make sure the Sabres get the lottery win. However, if they lose the lottery you're paid some money back as compensation for it not occurring.

I do the same with Soccer from time to time.

I'm starting to get weird feelings about this lottery.

It's starting to seem like Buffalo will win the lottery and right when they are about to announce it, Brett Hull, with the help of a minute and subjective loophole in the new CBA, will decide that another team should get the first overall pick. The league, after lengthy consideration will rule that its best to agree with Hull. I mean, they wouldn't want to cause a stir and create a distraction away from the main event. But then they will eliminate this loophole to be pro-active for future cases. To add insult to injury, John LeClair is able to force a ping pong ball into the bin through the side so fast that no one saw it happen. This was of course after Philly's ball was already selected, with a new ball in the bin they effectively eliminated Buffalo from even picking in the draft, with Philly getting two picks each round.

Also, I see the dominator adding in a line about him being a Red Wing for life, although I don't really know where that fits in.

I have no idea if other people will find this humourous, I do, I guess thats all that counts...

I find it humourous, but in a really sad sort of way. I particularly liked Leclair and the side of the net, er, bin.

Dunno about that, but the fact that the NHL refused numerous television outlets access to the draft lottery speaks volumes in my mind. Read it on SLAM over the weekend, but I can't find the bleepin' like at the moment.

Aside from the fact that it'd be a great PR opportunity, the conspiracy wonks will be out in full force if someone like TO, Detroit or Philly get the #1 overall.
