Hurricanes rivals?

What team or teams do Canes fans consider their biggest rivals?

I consider the Capitals as rivals. Love to see them lose, hate to see them win.

Caps are a bit of a rival from our days in the SE, but it's not a major one.

Devils, due to the re-alignment and the playoff history between the two teams, I would say are our biggest rival at the moment.

Some nice stuff going with the Bruins, Sabres, and to a lesser extent the Pens as well in recent years.

Yeah, that about sums it up. No burning rivalries at the moment, but we seem to have a healthy dislike with the Devils.

Those classless jerks in Buffalo are the fanbase we hate the most. Well me, anyway. As far as actual teams... doesn't seem like we really have one.

The team and players I don't think has any rivals..

With new alignment, it would be Devils and Caps.

But the fanbase has hate for a bunch of teams lol.

Devils, Sabres, Bruins. Mostly because of playoffs. That is all

Capitals and Devils are about it.

The Sabres thing is the most overrated and dumbest thing about our fanbase. One playoff series where some Sabres fans upset a few of ours. Their fans up there don't even know we think it's a rivalry.

Lately, the regular season games with the Bruins have gotten a little heated.

Who can forget Tim the Turtle and Slewfoot Skinner? Or the entire Bruins' starting lineup in the penalty box?

What other team would consider the Canes a rival?

None.

New divisions may change that in a few years but it's still too early. Winning would change it faster. But no one is going to have a rivalry if they are perennial cellar dwellers.

Visit a Sabres/Canes GDT. They most definitely do return the sentiments.

Check out the Devils board when they have a game against us or are just discussing rivalries in general. They don't HATE us the same way they do the Rangers, and there's still a bit of an aura of respect between the two fanbases. There's very few rivalries in ANY sport where the level of hate is what the Devils fans have for the Rangers. But make no mistake about it, the majority there consider us at least something of a rival if they don't outright hate us which quite a few do.

Rivalries are born in the playoffs and sustained by competitive, chippy games year in and year out.

The Hurricanes have no major rivals because their history has not lent itself to sustaining them. There was that one year where we decided it'd be a good idea to poke the bear (and it actually was), but otherwise I don't think there's been much nastiness with any particular team in recent memory that you could legitimately call a rivalry. The ones born in the playoffs are such distant memories that they've faded away.

Except for the dislike for Buffalo fans. Nobody here likes Buffalo fans. But that's between the fans, not the teams.

Thanks to everyone who responded, good stuff.

Yeah, watching standings is one thing but a playoff matchup is the by far best way to build up a rivalry so it will be interesting to see what develops under this new format.

I hate Florida personally and with all the whining their staff and players have done in the media over the past few years, I'm not sure our players are the fondest of them. Not a great rivalry though as both teams pretty much suck.

There is definitely still a dislike among some Buffalo fans regarding the Hurricanes.

I had some guy yell at me "**** the Hurricanes, Sabres rule *****" while I was standing at a light rail station waiting for a train while wearing a Hurricanes shirt a couple of months ago. I yelled back "2006" and he rolled up his window. I also know a Buffalo fan from school who hasn't quite gotten over that series. He told me recently that he hates us more now that we sent them McBain and took Sekera

I don't really hate any team, but certain fanbases do get on my nerves.

If we're talking teams we hate, I absolutely CAN'T STAND Montreal. Their fans, their players (especially Subban), their attitude, every single thing about that team rubs me the wrong way.

We really dont have one. Those series with the Devils in the playoffs never really carried over in the regular season. Same with the Sabres.

I would say the games that seem to be the most heated/exciting/competitive are the ones with the Bruins. Those are my favorite games to watch and I get a little extra pumped for those games personally.

You sure about that one? Fans of the ex-Kansas City Scouts seem to be rather ******** in their GDTs whenever we play them.
