Troy Brouwer

What teams would be interested in Browuer, and what would you be willing to offer? Scored 19G in 47GP last year (32G pace over a full season), and has demonstrated that he can be a good complimentary player on a scoring line and powerplay. Is obviously a physical force as well, so he can slot into a number of roles in the line-up. Can play both wings and is signed to a reasonable $3.67M contract until 2016.

Ideally, the Caps would want an all-situations or mobile shutdown 2nd pairing left shooting defenseman. Could potentially also work a deal around a different right winger or perhaps a strong futures package (in order to free up cap space and provide "currency" to acquire a 2LD from another team).

Admittedly, this offer was more to gauge Schlemko's trade value than an actual offer I'd say yes to Brouwer probably isn't what we're looking for and is also probably too expensive.

OTOH, any updates on Erat?

Could something with Brouwer and Klesla+ when Klesla comes back be workable?

Oates is still being a moron with Erat for no reason.

Klesla is already back, although the elbow to the head he took from Bobby Ryan last Tuesday doesn't help things.

I think Klesla for Erat is still our preferred trade. Though admittedly we'd like to hold on to Klesla now, even if his trade value his higher than Schlemko's. His grit + shutdown ability is simply too invaluable in stabilizing our blueline play.

The answer for this goes back awhile.

Josh Gorges
prospect/pick

Troy Brouwer
John Erskine

I proposed something similar to this during the off-season, and I'd still love to do it. With Emelin and Murray closer to returning and Pacioretty injured, are Montreal fans more receptive to this deal now?

The problem remains, that outside guys on entry level deals, Gorges is the only Habs d-man under contract for next season. Markov, Dias, Murray, Emilin, Bouillon are UFAs. Subban is a RFA. Tinordi and Beaulieu should be regulars by then.

If the Habs were a bit more set on next years defense, it would be a good basis of a deal.

Brouwer would be a perfect fit for Getzlaf and Perry. Even though he's one of my favorite Ducks, I'd offer up Luca Sbisa along with Peter Holland. Sbisa and Holland both would probably excel with a change of scenery.

Sbisa is certainly an intriguing piece, though less established than I would prefer. Holland has less appeal, since there isn't a clear cut place for him in Washington right now, either. We'll gladly take Perreault back instead.

Habs don't have a good enough defense corps to let Gorges go... Just too thin at the moment. Brouwer would be nice to have as he would add size on the right side.

Only guys that could be moved would be one of the smurfs - Desharnais or Briere... Habs would sweeten the pot with a prospect/draft pick. Leblanc maybe? What would Caps fans want?

Doubt that would be able to get a deal done.

Brouwer would look really good as a Hab but, Gorges can't be part of the trade. Brouwer seemed to have a breakout year last year but, at the age of 28, I can't see him being a consistent 30 goal/50 point scorer for the rest of his career. If the Habs are making a trade, it's got to be with the future in mind.... I don't think he's worth the asking price for us.

Yes, but at least it's a cheaper pawn than what Habs HFers are doing with DD Not really asking for all that much, and I'd take a draft pick for Schlemko just to clear up our blueline. But just trying to gauge the best possible return.

Vatanen doesn't really make sense for Washington. They already have plenty of puck moving defensemen, especially RHD.

Doubt you could get return like that given Brouwers horrendous playoff history

Contenders will be looking for a guy who can put them over top ,, Brouwer would just be waste of roster spot come playoff time

dude...that is an awesome description of troy brouwer. THAT player the Caps would have zero interest in trading.

You want to trade the overpayed and underperforming leader of men that who is really a poser. right?

See...the caps aren't interested in trading that guy. they like their team.

You mean an OP in the trade thread mentioned the positives about a player and didn't emphasize the negatives? SHOCKING.

I want to trade him because he's replaceable. We're loaded at right wing, especially with the decision to keep Wilson on the roster. Our current options are more than adequate to be a stopgap 2RW, and it's not like Brouwer's possession numbers or post-season track record are much better than a stopgap 2RW. Other teams have a more pressing need for a player of his ilk, so it makes sense to judge what others would be willing to give for him.
