Who's Here To Stay?

Just wanted to get some discussion on what players will be staying in the NHL after the 9 game mark. There are some rumblings that Morgan Rielly will be staying, and it sounds like Tom Wilson will stay too.

What about others? Or who will be getting sent down in your opinion?

Barkov plaiying top line in Florida, MacKinnon producing with Colorado.

On the other hand Nichuskin's struggling I think the best would be him being sent down

Can grigorenko still play for the temp arts or is he too old? I think he should be sent to the ahl if that's the case, doesn't seem to have the strength yet

Morgan Rielly is almost certainly here for good with the Leafs. Kid's been great.

Grigs can still be sent to Quebec, he's too young for the AHL. It puts us in a predicament, as he's too good for juniors but he's not NHL-ready yet and we're forced to play him. Ideally he'd be in the AHL but we can't send him there until our season is over, I expect him to be in the AHL full-time next season though

Maatta probably will not stay with Pittsburgh, even though he looks really good.

What do you guys think about Maata? Playing 3rd pairing and 2nd unit powerplay.

Personally, I think he's good enough to stay.

I think Vatanen and Lindholm will both see some time in the AHL this season, unless one of Fistic, Souray, Sibsa or Lovejoy is moved.

He just scored his first NHL goal today

Tom Wilson staying up is really dumb.

If he is sent back, it'll have nothing to do with his play. He's been steady beyond his years and has a great knack for knowing when to join in the offense.

When healthy:

Scuderi - Letang
Orpik - Martin
Niskanen - Bortuzzo
Engelland

Then Despres and Dumoulin are NHL ready down in the AHL.

It's a numbers game, and Maatta has to convince Pens brass he's enough better than the other options to justify burning a year of UFA (and the almost inevitable ups-and-downs over the course of an 82 game season that come with being a teen NHL defenseman).

If Määttä is sent back to OHL and called by Team Finland for Sochi games, would that be the first time in the Olympics when a player from that league is picked for the Olympics?

It's not too far-fetched thought when you look at the old and fragile Finnish defence.

Dynamo Moscow and Nichushkin/his people dissolved the two-year contract they had. His agent Mark Gandler confirmed one of the terms was that should Nichu not make the NHL team he was drafted to, he would return to play for Dynamo.

Dallas Stars and the NHL are under no obligation to honor the aforesaid agreement so it's a fascinating situation to follow. He most likely wouldn't play big minutes in Dynamo either so from that standpoint it isn't the ideal option.

Yes, dunno which team though. He himself said in a interview he already had the plane tickets to leave for the CHL but ultimately ended up staying in Chelyabinsk.

I don't think any team owns his CHL rights. Could be wrong, but not sure why no team would take a late round flyer on Nichushkin.

Maatta will likely go down, but his play would have him staying on many of the NHL teams.

This just came out:

Not an official announcement, but sounds like he'll stay (for now).

Fantastic, he is certainly one of the top six defenseman Pittsburgh has.

Rossi is the running joke of Pittsburgh media. If Maatta does stay up (it's possible), that goof calling it will be a "sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut" situation.

His articles mean less than nothing.

Dave Molinari ‏@MolinariPG 29m
Penguins apparently do not plan to return Maatta to London after nine games, although that doesn't guarantee he will stay in NHL all season.

Blind squirrel found his nut.

Good to hear not getting overly confident about it was a good call. I don't personally care either way. Possibly captaining the Knights, one more JWC tournament etc. sounds like a fine alternative to me.

See above. Rossi may be a joke, but Dave Molinari is the dean among Penguins media, and he says Maatta looks to be staying. He doesn't post rumors.
