It's the Russian hosts who are in charge of security. IOC has nothing to do with it.

As far as your childish assessment of Russia's military, you might want to stop lashing out emotionally like a scorned child and pick up a book or two. Putting the nuclear option aside, Russia even in its worst days in the 90s, could wipe every Saudi off the face of the earth in conventional war. The Saudis are a gutless sissy race of spoiled rich boys with no military tradition. They have no indigenous military industry and haven't seen real combat since the crusades. They erroneously think that their money will do the fighting for them and someday soon they will find out just how wrong they are. Russia has long turned a blind eye to their ********, but I think it's long time they actively take a hard stance against the main source of terrorism in the world.
1) When did I throw hissy fit and call Russians evil?

2) Russia lacks the capacity to fight a conventional conflict beyond its borderland regions. The Russian navy is barely a shadow of its former self. The Russia Air Force lacks the capacity to fight a war beyond its support bases in Russia and the Russian Army is not equipped or trained well enough to fight a conventional war against a well equipped/trained force

And the RSAF is one of the best in region and would be trouble enough let alone the Russians having to contend with Saudi Navy (Small but capable) and Saudi land forces (Well equipped and improved training/logistics thru last 2 decades)

The Saudi's watched what happened to Kuwait in 1991 and got message. Since then they have built up defensive capability that is one of the best in region (Will only get better with recent F-15 and Eurofighter deals)

As for the world taking stance against Saudi's ,, Doubt very much rest of world will want to face jihad (Russia threatening Medina and Mecca will surely go well with Islamic world)

Russia using anti-riot police, the OMOH, to suppress pro-LGBT rallies. Someone should probably tell them not to stand next to any mirrors:

He was also influenced by the books "brave new world" and "we".

Never read We but Brave New World is a masterpiece and probably a more accurate prediction of the future than 1984 turned out to be. (atleast in western culture)

I don't know anything about this thing with Saudi Arabia, but could you just imagine an Olympic games which ended up being cause for a war? If that were to happen, and usually it ends up that nothing does, btu if it did I can't say if I'd blame them or not but I could see the IOC never going back to Russia again.

Are you asking me that in response to my post about 1984 and Brave New World?

I certainly dont want us to turn into an apathetic society where we can have or do almost anything but ultimately care about nothing. But who would. I certainly wouldn't want to live in the world Orwell foresaw either. But again who would.

Yup that's what I did.

So don't you want to do anything about it then? Or aren't you aware we are moving right towards that kind of world?

And you are doing what exactly? Whining on a hockey message board with generally atrocious punctuation, spreading Monster energy drink conspiracy theories?

I'm not sure Russia will be all that different. Munich had their thing in 1972, Atlanta had the bombing in 1996. It can happen anywhere. This is a world event and it really doesn't matter which country it is in, as history has shown. The Boston Marathon for instance?

All you can do is hope and pray nothing happens. Obviously security is still beefed up to the max and they are doing everything in their power to prevent it from happening, but it simply can happen and I don't think these Olympics will be any different.

The punctuation comment is the least relevant part of that post and mostly reflects how awful is to read his posts. And yet I can't look away. Go figure.

The point is, he's talking about doing something meanwhile he's sitting here peddling asinine conspiracy theories all day. Who the hell is he to admonish anyone? Or is that his version of doing his part?

Please. I'd love to know the concrete steps he's taking to "change the world", beyond "educating" the less fortunate of us here.

They already dropped the ball when they gave the Olympics to China.
