He's been great, he's very solid defensively, and he's playing as well as he ever has offensively IMO.

His contract is looking like very, very nice right now.

With the Olympic size rinks, the US would be crazy not to have Fowler on the team. His ability to skate and lug the puck out of his own zone and set up the offense is second to none, and is a need for every contending team. You add being a shut down defenseman at the same time, and it is hard to imagine him not being on the team.

I wouldn't say crazy, there are a lot of good US defenseman this time around. They're not going to have anyone like Ryan Whitney again that's for sure, it will be tough to crack that roster.

The way I see it Suter, Martin and Yandle are locks with Shattenkirk and McDonagh likely being there too. After that there are plenty of options, Fowler being one of the.

i've been very impressed he seems to have shaken off his early confidence issues in the offensive zone....i would still like to see him be a little more aggressive jumping into the play

Same, especially when we're down late in a game. I thought he could have been a bit more aggressive in the third yesterday.

I've said this before but it bears repeating, his movement in the offensive zone has really come alive lately. We always knew his offense wasn't built around his shot, but his ability/willingness to take control of the puck in the offensive zone is what had been missing. He has come down from the point and gotten involved in the offense more. I think it can still get better but it has definitely come to life lately. Between that and getting his shot through he has become much more of an offensive threat.

If he keeps this up, who knows, he might end up being as good as Dylan McIlrath.

You're dreaming. Next you're gonna mention him in the same breath as Nick Leddy...

Pierre said Fowler will likely be there, Pierres usually pretty spot on. Keep it up Cammy!

I remember the reaction of Pierre McGuire when they draftet McIlrath instead of Fowler, he was more than right...

Oh and BTW, thought his defence against the Penguins was very, very good. Nice to see how Boudreau plays him against the top stars and Fowler shows his talent against them...

So much struggle with the words 'now' and 'future'

He is too young to offer what a 28-30 year old defensive stud can. There are exceptions, but your cornerstone, cup winning 1st pairing dmen tend to be fairly veteran and in their physical prime, especially when they have filled out a bit of their body frame (not till mid 20s).

Fowler has such a long potential career in the NHL, even if he just focused in being Defensive. He will always have a top 2 pairing job. If he continues to improve defensivelly, and get comfortable with jumoing into the offense, he can be a perrenial all-star (well... assuming he gets any recognition playing for the Ducks).

Since the question is about the future, I would say that Fowler is right now twice the dman he was 2 years ago, and signifigantly better than last year. So assuming he just naturally continues, 23 or 24 he will be undoubtedly #1.

The funny thing is fans around the league still think of him as an offensive specialist that is a liability on the defensive end.

With Beauch injured (hopefully not for long), isn't this the time to play Cam with Lindholm? Lindholm has played extensively on the right side growing up, and this could prove to be our number one pairing for the next decade.

Maybe, but that also means our 2nd pairing is taking a hit, and Allen is the logical choice to get bumped up to the 2nd, so the 3rd pairing is too.

It actually might be the best approach, though. Lindholm has the conditioning to absorb minutes, and we already know Fowler can do it. It might be worth going top heavy for a few games, and letting them play as many minutes as they can handle. Hopefully, by then, Beauchemin is back.

Normally, I'd say just keep Lovejoy with Fowler, but with Beauchemin out that means we're going to need to lean even more on Fowler, and Lovejoy is already out of his depth. It's a pretty ****** situation to be in, because we're already missing Souray.

Has he actually or are you just making that up? I've never seen him play the right side in Norfolk or Anaheim and I don't imagine there's much video footage of him available in his Swedish junior days.

I think he has played the right side during some of his recent games when paired with Allen. That would be after Sbisa was taken away from Allen and moved to the left side with Beauch on the right.

Hmm maybe he did, I thought I saw Allen on the right but Dmen swap over so often it's hard to tell.

For some guys switching sides isn't a big deal but for others it is (Fowler comes to mind as someone who struggled switching sides, as did Beauch in his first stint here) which is why I was curious if he has had experience there or if it was just a random claim. If he can play the right comfortable it's good news for us.

I know in one of the recent ones (don't remember which) I specifically noticed it early in the game when I saw the parings were changed. I also commented at the time in the GDT. I was curious to see if Sbisa went to the left (his supposed better side) and he did. I also then wondered if Allen would move to the right to keep Lindholm on the left, but he didn't. Now I didn't follow it all game long so I can't swear how long it lasted but BB did try it.

All that said I think it has been rare that Lindholm played the right side with the Ducks so far.

Lindholm and Lovejoy were the ones playing the right side on defense in the New Jersey game after Beauch got hurt

As we saw in the Tampa Bay game, Lindholm is quite comfortable being a right defensemen. Dare I say, that Lindholm played one of his best games of the season in his first full game as a Duck in playing on the right hand side of the ice. It is for this reason why I think a Fowler-Lindholm pairing can be comparable to Weber-Suter pairing for the next five to ten years.
