Later in article,Dellapina wrote "friends" of Messier feel he will announce his retirement before this season

Quote:
those same sources expect Messier to make an official retirement announcement when the time is right rather than attempt to play a 26th NHL season

He may be a shell of his former self, but he is still better than enough centers out there that a team would pick him up.

of more interest to me is how the inter-conference schedule will play out.

dellapina says in the daily news today that the atlantic division will play home-and-home with the central.

and yet brooks is saying in the post on the same morning that the division will play home games vs. the central and road games vs. the northwest.

i would hope common sense prevails in the league and they go with the home and home format. it's easier on the travel schedule i'd imagine and, for sentimental value reasons, it'd be nice to see 2 games vs. the red wings and blackhawks in the same season...even if we possibly wouldn't see them again until the 2008-09 season.

i mean, either way it goes it won't be so bad but i'd prefer home-and-home.
