Nick Grossmann to Washington

Hes a physical d-man, who seems capable of playing top 4 with either Green or Carlson and would be better than a young prospect or Erskine playing there. So simply what would it cost. Also read last week he was an option to be traded because they were having trouble trading Mezaros.

The Caps are looking for a left-handed defenseman--and everyone likes a defensive-minded d-man with size (and a willingness to use it)--but hasn't Grossman's stock fallen pretty sharply since he was acquired (for a 2nd + 3rd round picks) two seasons ago? When he's actually healthy, hasn't he been playing in the bottom pairing?

The Caps also have next to zero cap space left, so the same amount (or relatively close) would have to be going Philadelphia's way.

Pretty lukewarm on Grossmann as the solution to the 2LD hole. Is he an upgrade over Erskine? Yes, no doubt. Is he worth his $3.5M price tag? Well, it's certainly not a steal of a contract. Really doubting that he'd provide much more than whatever ~$3.5M of salary we send the other way in the deal (so, no, this isn't a LHD I'd trade Browuer for, nor would Philadelphia want him).

If we could somehow twist Philadelphia's arm into accepting Erskine + Fehr + 3rd in exchange for him, I'd do the deal. But third ling winger probably isn't a big enough hole in Philadelphia's roster to make Fehr an enticing enough piece to move Grossmann. And I'd try hard to get Gorges or Smid or another higher end 2LD before making a move on Grossmann. Probably even look at Trevor Daley before him.

Flyers have no reason to trade Grossmann unless they decide to go full rebuild mode.

Dude is a beast. To the notion that his stock has fallen since we have acquired him, I don't know what your talking about or what your watching, but that is far from the truth.

When he's been healthy, he's been extremely effective. His health was what was dragging his value down, but so far, so good.

Not sure what that has to do with this thread, but you're expecting a winger who's producing at a point/game pace to be traded for a defenseman who's in the AHL.

Where would you get that idea?

Grossmann is playing about 18 minutes a game and amongst the league leaders in blocked shots. 13th amongst defensemen in hits. Part of the top PK unit.

Probably not a 1st, but certainly not any lower than the last time he was acquired.
