I think you grossly underestimate the value of defensemen compared to wingers.

And Gardiner isn't exactly playing fantastic hockey at the moment. If he's not contributing offensively...what exactly does he bring to your defense?

Wait, why is Hamhuis a #2 dman but JVR/Lupul #1 wingers?(despite being behind Kessel)

Gardiner is a top four by virtue of the position he's given, not skill. He has a considerable way to go before that changes. Regardless, why would we give up one of the best defensive defensemen in the league unless it was of immediate benefit? Sorry, Kulemin isn't going to cut it.

Who cares about the bizarre depth chart some random Leafs fan has concocted to justify his outrage.

No matter what Dan Hamhuis' trade value is, the fact is he signed a discount contract with the Canucks for a reason, he secured a no trade clause for a reason, this team is not going to dismantle and go the route of the "fire sale / suck for half a decade / ??? / profit" rebuild.

Might as well lock the thread up because this player is not going anywhere.

As a leaf fan I really wanted this guy and figured between him wanting to stay in Vancouver and how hf values players it would be tough.

Package from leafs would be mostly future based.

Gardiner+1st+Leivo (leafs best forward prospect)

Ask Sharks fans what they'd want for Vlasic.

That's probably close to what we'd want for Hamhuis.

Can we just get a sticky that says Edler, Hamhuis, Garrison, and Bieksa have NTCs?

Not a single Canucks fan has asked for Kessel, what are you talking about?

No interest in futures, only interested in top 6 forwards that improve the team now.

When playing at their best it's (IMO):

Edler
Hamhuis
Garrison
Bieksa

How it's been so far this year:

Garrison
Bieksa
Edler
Hamhuis (but has been great on this road trip for the most part so it looks like he's getting used to the torts system)

Jason Garrison is far and away our best defenseman and easily one of the best in the league. Guy doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves.

Although Hamhuis has a NTC, and is signed to a hometown discount, so even if in theory a deal could be reached, it's unlikely Hamhuis gets traded.
If past experience have taught me anything about leafs and Van working out a deal it is a difficult and sometimes hair pulling experience. So I think myself as a leaf fan will pass on trying to make a trade proposal on Hamhuis because we really can't give up the pieces needed to get it done.

Over the last two seasons, he's been on pace for 38 points..but in reality..i'd say that Hamhuis at his current age and playing ability is good for 30-35 points.

He's an outstanding defender... incredibly smooth skater, lays the occasional eye catching hipcheck.

2 more years on a great contract. Idea no.2 guy imo.

If TML actually asked VCR what they wanted for Hamhuis..this is how i see it going:

Canucks ask for JVR and Gardiner... TML would come back and ask the Canucks to throw in a 2nd round pick or a prospect like Corrado/Jensen. and Vcr would say no and counter by offering a 3rd rnd pick or J. Schroeder....tml says no and the deal goes away.

He's a very solid top 4 dman..who's playing REALLY well right now ...

but he's not one of the best in the league...obviously...

I'd say he's a no.3 guy..... Better than no.4 guys like Bieksa / Smid etc... but not quite at the Dan Hamhuis level (I mean 2012 or 2011 Hamhuis..this year he's struggling under torts system)

If Garrison plays top notch defense like he's doing now...puts up 40 points and 10-15 goals......and does this for 2 or 3 consecutive years..then we can revisit this conversation...but as of now, he has not proven he can sustain his current level of play.

But you also admittedly don't watch the Canucks and admit you aren't familiar with their play this year so you should probably stop posting on this topic

I watch enough hockey games of every team in the league to know that Garrison isn't even close to being one of the best dman in the league. I'm sure most of HF will agree with me, and most Vancouver fans.

Well then if JVR is your #1 winger, we'll take your #2 winger (Kessel) instead.

No trade backs.

I'm admittedly bias towards Garrison but he's better than "not even close". He's second in the league for scoring by defensemen despite a putrid powerplay and manages to be the best defensively in a core like Vancouver's night in and night out.

He would arguably be your best defenceman, yes.

A Hamhuis - Phaneuf pairing would be unreal, but doubt they'd get paired together.
