Has trickledown effect on roster... Smid gets pushed down... gets to watch out for Schultzy... making both better I think... less minutes over all and can focus on their strengths

Last Ference Belov is balanced... physical intelligent mostly reliable... Ference will serve us best with less minutes... less to expose his weakness in defense coverage

And behind them a real NHL goalie... would be so nice
Exactly! I just don't want to give up a first rounder and not have an NHL goalie next season to show for it.

On the Miller front, it matters what the deal is. If it is a prospect and picks, I think I do it as an Edmonton fan. Even if he is a UFA. Think about what they would give at the trade deadline for him. This way at least you get the majority of the year out of itÖ

I don't see the point of wasting assets for someone who will just bolt at the end of the season. We will be back where we started on the goalie front. These assets could be used maybe towards a dman or a goalie that is under contract.

Sabres' Darcy Regier says of Ryan Miller: "Iíve really had no discussions of late with regard to any of our other potential free agents."

This was just posted, which makes me doubt any Miller rumours.

That being said, I would be happy to part with futures for Miller. He is one player that would immediately have a huge impact. This is the kind of spark the oilers and their fans need.

This is how it will play out:

Miller is traded to the Oilers
TSN confirms it on their website
Trade gets nixed because we are on Miller's "no trade" list
TSN removes the trade from their website
HF Oil riots
Sound familiar?

I'd like Steve Ott from Buffalo. He's tough, physical, and capable of playing both wing and center and can slot in on both the 2nd and 3rd lines. Maybe we could parlay Mark Assistobello's recent performance into some trade value? We can probably dump Grebeskov to even out the cap hit.

To BUF:
Mark Arcobello+Denis Grebeskov

To EDM:
Steve Ott

Yakupov-RNH-Eberle
Perron-Ott-Hemsky
Eager-Gordon-Jones
Gazdic-Acton-Lander

Healthy:
Hall-Gagner-Yakupov
Ott-RNH-Eberle
Perron-Gordon-Hemsky
Joensuu/Gazdic-Lander-Pitlick

That looks like a very balanced forward group IMO.

Love to get a player like Ott, but keep dreaming if you think a career AHLer and a walk on D from the KHL gets you Ott. Easily cost us a Marincin Gernart Musil Fedun basically a top prospect

I'd easily do Gernat/Musil/Fedun if Arcobello has no value.

Sabres fan here. I know it is a long way off but I was hoping to get your thoughts. It seems like besides D and G which is a seperate conversation you guys need more quantity as compared to quality right now. Assuming you have a pick in the 4-9 range would you consider something along these lines. This is rough so I am really asking more about a philosophy vs specific pieces. A few thoughts.

Option #1

To EDM:
2014 NYI pick (16-24ish)
2014 2nd rd BUF pick (33-40ish)
2014 2nd rd LA pick (50's ish

To Buf:
2014 EDM pick (4-9ish)

Option #2

To EDM:
Ennis/Stafford (youngish 2/3 winger)
McNabb/McCabe/Ruhwedel (solid 4-6 young D)
2014 2nd rd Pick

To Buf:
one of the big 4 (who is another discussion)

Why are we considering trading our 1st rounder this year for a rental?

This team is clearly lottery caliber, that's just stupid asset management.

At least trade it for a controllable asset.

This is beyond awful. The Oilers need quality, not quantity.

You must mean one of the big 4 of Nick Schultz Ryan Jones Ales Hemsky and Devan Dubnyk.... because there is no way in hell you can think that could possibly fetch you one of the real Big 4...
