Tavares is definitely a step ahead of Hall. Probably more.

Easily. If the Islanders offered Tavares for Hall straight up, you'd have to be crazy not to accept.

IMO Tavares is 24th best player in the NHL and Hall is 25th on my list. Definitely not a big difference between those two guys.

I wonder if the rumoured Colburn for Smid + would still be on the table, I'd do that deal now in a second. I'd also like the Oiler's to go hard after Clifford and Martin, they shouldn't cost to much and would make the Oilers harder to play against.

Plenty of good tidbits in Matheson's piece where he sits down with MacTavish...

Quote:
MacTavish won’t trade all of his draft picks next June for immediate help. He won’t say if he’d even deal his first-rounder, but you can bet it’s in play, although this might break the heart of chief scout Stu MacGregor.

“You have to put value on what you’re getting and what you’re paying. We’ll do whatever’s reasonable to help this current group,” he said. “But I won’t make a trade because you run the risk of undoing your long-term objectives for a very myopic, very short-sighted gain.”

Does playing against the Kings, even in their old purple jerseys, hammer home the point that the Oilers need nastier people?

“Yup,” said MacTavish. “That’s what I’d take from that game. There are other teams with big nasty people who are looking for people who can score goals. Do we have the makeup now? When healthy we do. We can be highly competitive.”

Can MacTavish get one of those abrasive blue-liners?

“There’s a premium on nasty players and that’s not necessarily what we want to pay,” he said.

Does he have the right makeup of players on his team now?

“No. That’s obvious when you have holes from game to game. The makeup has to be jigged.”

Lots of fans are howling, saying he should trade one of the Oilers’ young guns for bigger help?

“I understand the frustration, but at the same time, it’s all about value. There’s lots of deals out there where we can overpay.”

There’s no deals on the horizon?

“I wouldn’t say that. You never know.”
That's less than a quarter of it.

READ IT HERE.

That's an awful interview, I mean what exactly is interesting here? Nasty players are expensive, the team needs to be changed, there might be deals, there might not and over payments have to be avoided. Yeah, great pearls of wisdom right there, thanks for the "insight" MacT...

Here's my input on a big-time roster overhaul for the Edmonton Oilers. This is a lot of change and I by no means am implying that this is likely, but here it goes:

Marincin + 2015 2nd + N.Schultz for Ehrhoff and a 5th

Gagner + Smid for Simmonds

Eberle + 1st for Yandle, Greiss

Sign: Stastny, Cleary, T. Lewis, Halak
*Re-sign Hemsky for 3x4M (ish)

Hall-RNH-Yakupov
Perron-Stastny-Simmonds
Cleary-Gordon-Hemsky
Joensuu-Lewis-Pitlick

Yandle-Petry
Ehrhoff-J. Schultz
Nurse-Ference
*i know we then have 4 left-handed D*

Halak
Greiss

Thoughts? I know that this many big trades are ridiculously unlikely, but:
1) are the trades at reasonable prices?
2) do you like the look of the roster?

I'm not to worried about Mac T making any moves, our lineup in 3 seasons will be killer.

Hall - RNH - Eberle
Perron - Macdavid - Yakupov
xxx - Gagner - xxx
xxx - xxx - xxx
Eklblad - Nurse
Klefbom - Schultz
xxx - xxx

Now if that lineup doesn't win us a cup 8 years from now then I don't know what will.

That's a nice dream but I would never trade players and leave holes that have to be filled with big UFA players. There is no guarantee they would sign here, actually the chance is very slim considering the team and the city.

The trades look alright to me though, except for the Eberle trade which is a big over-payment on our end. Simmonds and Erhoff would be big additions to the team imo.

Simmonds is overrated. There, I said it.

Would he valuable for us? Yes. At the prices I see on these boards though, I`m not touching him.

I love the Oilers but man is it getting hard to watch.. I've decided I'm starting a support group:

Oilers Fan Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from losing. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop losing, or just come to grips with failure. There are no dues or fees for OFA membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. OFA is not allied with any Flames fans, Buffalo fans, or even those dreaded Toronto fans with their fancy fast rebuild. Our primary purpose is to stay happy and help other fans to deal with the harsh reality of losing. The group will consist of daily lessons and activities that well help deal with the struggles and embarrassment of losing. Through strength in numbers and theses tools the class provides, we will survive the hardships on the roads to winning, or just learn to not give a s**t.

Oilers Fan Anonymous- Winning isn't Everything.

In all honesty tho I hope we don't make harsh decision. This year isn't looking good at all an no trade could fix it. So unless we win the trade Mac T can save that "Bold" trade for the deadline.

Eberle for evander Kane

I know Ebs is a fan favorite and hall's best friend but Kane is exactly what we need on the 1st line

I would also call up Lander and have him on wing with Gordon. What a mentor he would be. I would also put RNH with Hemsky and someone with grit like Perron. Hemmer and Hopkins seem like they share the same brain on the ice and are so fast.

For me a healthy line up looks like

Hall TBA Kane
Perron RNH Hemsky
Yak Gordon lander
Joensuu acton gazdic

I still think we need a #1 vet center to lead the pack and let RNH grow and develop a little

Well first you aren't getting Bogosian for Eberle. Second you aren't getting Simmonds AND Couts for Yak. Also that team doesn't look that much better up front. Gagner is awful defensively so why is he centering the 3rd line?
