Honestly, if we are assuming Darcy is a lame duck GM (which, given the direction of the team currently, isn't really much of a strech)

Why in the world do we want to keep him around for arguably the most important trade deadline in recent history for this team? (vanek, ott, and Miller)

I was on the "what difference will it make".....the difference is that putting a new permanent GM in place now gives them time to get a sense of the market, get a sense of what the Sabres have in terms of assets, who stays, who goes, what our needs are, time to go to Rochester, work with the scouts, get a game plan for pre draft scouting.

Replacing a GM isn't trading for a 1st basemen, they aren't just plug and play.

If you know who is going to replace darcy, you do ASAP. Waiting gains you nothing.

If the Buffalo Sabres end up with a top pick during this rebuild, Darcy better not be in the driver seat when the time comes to really put it all together.

If he is, then the biggest bust on the team will be the OWNER.

i think its easy to recognize the value in keeping the guy who has had all the first hand conversations regarding those players with all the GMs around the league... for probably the last 8 months

not to mention.... he recently turned 3 pending UFAs into 1st, Larsson, Hackett, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd, 5th.... so he's like... kind of good at it

#1. Pomniville wasn't a pending UFA at the time (nit picky, I know)
#2. Extracting value != being a good GM

No one is arguing that Darcy isn't good at a winning trades value wise. What he is bad at is team building. I'd rather lose a few trades and get the right players to build around then have alot of the wrong players gathered from the trades we "won"

I heard Weber is a minus 13. That can't possibly be true, can it?

Some accolades are worth knowing the details about, some are not.

If your resume includes a presidents cup and not a Stanley Cup you aren't good enough.

Au contraire. It probably means you make plenty of money golfing for a living and don't have to worry about sacrificing your body for a hockey team.

Is that a golf thing? Golf is right up there with baseball with me in the pantheon of wastes of time.

Ok... Lets put it this way

If you take a very good team and underachieve you aren't the GM for me.

Yes. The Presidents' Cup is a golfing trophy. The Presidents' Trophy is the trophy awarded to the best NHL regular season team.

You should be. If you dont perform in the regular season you dont get a chance at the cup.

You are misunderstanding.

Patting yourself on the back for being a good regular season team is silly. Winning 60 games and losi g in round 1 is worse than winning 30 games and missing the playoffs.

You must be one miserable dude during the regular season...Personally, I like watching my team dominate during the winter months. 2005-07 were by far my favorite Sabres seasons...ahead of the '99 team that got further and did win a postseason trophy (even if it wasn't the Cup).

I'd still fire him this very minute.
It would also give time to the new GM to make plans for the draft etc.

He's made some great trades in the past (Rhett Warrener for Mike Wilson is one I'll always remember), but he's had his share of massive fail moments (Peca situation, not acquiring a D at 2006 Trade Deadline, messy contracts, wrong extensions etc.)...

Worst of all, after all this time, I think it's fairly clear that Regier has no idea whether his icing a good team or a bad one until he actually sees the standings half way through the season.

I must say, you are loyal to the end. Regier wont last the season. He has no chance, and its his own fault because he does everything at snail speed.
