"those very hits" which are also hits to the head. That's why they are suspended. They are focusing on head hits, whether blindside or not, whether intended or not. They've made that clear by removing the "blindside" language from the rule and by clearly stating that lack of intent doesn't excuse a hit to the head anymore.

The Ryan Garbutt hit on Dustin Penner was a head shot but not blindside, yet was suspended 5 games.

So.. what's your point?

edit: More head shots that weren't blindside and were suspended: Grabner on Gerbe. Edler on Hertl.

My points it that they punish head shots, regardless of what was used to hit the head, and that if it looks as bad as Scott's hit did, and results in a guy getting hurt, the perpetrator of said hit is going to get a suspension. It's just how the league works now. People trying to say he used his shoulder or didn't extend his elbow are missing the point. He made contact with a player's head and that player got injured. Of course Scott is going to get a few games off. It's how the league reacts these days.

I agree but that kind of contradicts your earlier point:
Quote:
No, it should have still been called. What it means is that it doesn't fall into the category of blind side hits, which is what the league jumps all over in terms of suspensions.
We are seeing this year that just isn't true anymore. Blindside or not is not as relevant and it's not even in the rules anymore.

I was speaking in terms of hits like that when coupled with a head shot, even if I wasn't particularly clear...

No history of suspensions, so you know he won't get penalized for this. Which by the way, seems much later and more blatant than Scott's hit.
Chara throws his arms right into the guys face but that is A-OK.

I'm suggesting Rolston keep him off the ice at that point of the game. As for what Rolston should know... he knew Scott wasn't going out there to score a goal, protect a lead or defend his teammates from Loui and Bergeron.

I'm so sick of this double standard ****ing ********. Chara gets away with everything. Charas hit was really late in comparison to Scotts.

I also notice how anytime someone goes to hit charge he raises his elbow up to the persons face nearly every time. Sick of it. I hope Kessel chops his legs off lol

Lets see... plays for the Bruins, is named Chara = 0 games. I've already seen the 6'9 excuse being used yet its not allowed for Scott.....hypocrites

Scott hearing October 31. Seems far away. The turnaround time for Lapierre and McCleod seemed much faster. Realistically, there's no way Scott should get more than them, considering their guys were stretchered off and Scott has equal (if not less) history. Who knows, though.

Edit: I should point out I couldn't care less if Scott the player is gone 5 games or 50, but the NHL double-standard annoys me.

Has it been posted yet that Scotts hearing will be on October 31st?

That's a ****ing joke if you ask me, more than a week between the incident and the hearing, during which the player remains suspended without getting a chance to make his case... Pretty much shows that they already seem to have made up their mind about the severity of his infraction.

**** the NHL ...Chara is a dirty piece of **** and the reason he wasn't suspended was because he is a key player on a team the NHL craddles. Same reason Kessel didn't get actual games./ rant

You guys can't honestly tell me you're forming any kind of opinion about that Chara hit based on the video in this thread. You can't see a damn thing in that video. The only thing you can see if the hit was late.

The delays on these hearings are just silly. Have the hearing, have it immediately, get it done.

They just don't want to "feel guilty" suspending a guy for 10-15 games with no prior history. The PA should be on the NHL's ass.

I think the PA should be a bit more self-policing too since these are their fellow constituents.

SCOTT FACES HEARING WITH NHL TOMORROW: http://sabres.nhl.co...vid=DL|BUF|home

The NHL is cracking down on hits to the head and Sabres forward John Scott will find out first-hand how severely he will be penalized for a hit he put on Bostonís Loui Eriksson on Oct. 23.

Scott faces a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety in New York City on Thursday. The in-person hearing allows for the League to suspend Scott for at least five games. He's already sat out three games.

Since the start of the season, eight players, excluding Scott, have been suspended by the League for a combined 35 games. Four of those suspensions are a result of illegal hits to the head and total 18 games, including a 10-game suspension to the Sabresí Patrick Kaleta for hitting Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson on Oct. 10.

In RR's Presser following today's practice, lots of discussion on the Emphasis of getting rid of Head Shots in the League: http://video.sabres....2529&catid=1373

7 games for borderline hit while blatantly being John Scott. It's total nonsense, but from a practical standpoint it's probably good that he's out of the line-up for a while.

7 games for Scott is a good number for a first offender. Is 7 games enough for Scott to request an appeal?

He'll be back well before that, namely a week from tomorrow in Anaheim (the three games he's already missed count).
