I was never into AnAl all that much anyways.

But the real puzzle here is why it wouldn't have been Corrado that was called up.

I'm sure all will be revealed in good time... whether it be a forth coming trade, undisclosed injury or Gillis just simply falling of his rocker.

Still, what a head scratcher.

This is idiotic.

11 forwards and 9 defenders.

Why Alberts is still here is a mystery. He's total garbage, and the coaches clearly know he's total garbage and have no confidence in him.

Likewise, Sauve is crap. Wasn't good enough for the AHL last year.

Do not understand, at all.

If we have 11 forwards, call up Archibald or Pelletier - who have both had good starts in the AHL - and give them a look.

This '8 defender' stuff has to end. It's fine if you have 8 good defenders, but when the guys we're carrying are this bad ... what's the point, exactly?

Canucks are over the cap with this call-up, unless Dalpe doesn't count while on conditioning stint.

I'm really digging to find the logic of this call-up, but I can't find any.

8 defenders I get, as long as one can transition to the wing ala Weber. 9 confuses me. Maybe Torts is going to revolutionize the game and future fans will be like "wow, they only played with 3 d pairings, grandpa?"

I still think the bolded is the real crap there.

Sauve was obviously good enough for the AHL in the two years prior to last year, and he isn't exactly the only prospect we had rotting in the ECHL at times last year, who have looked competent at the AHL level.

The move is still really bizarre, but i think the negativity towards Sauve has become a bit extreme around these parts. He's a massive disappointment relative to his draft stock, but that doesn't mean he can't potentially be better than a guy like Andrew Alberts at some point.

Sauve is dumb as a sack of hammers.

He has the physical skills to be an Alberts, but he simply cannot read the play defensively at the level required to be an NHL player. Looks poor in that regard by AHL standards.

He's just a flat-out bad player.

smart move

we'll get to compare sauve to alberts and hopefully realize that both belong nowhere near an nhl roster

To be fair, this is his second time getting called up. Their must be something someone in the organisation sees.

Not entirely sure what it is.

His first stint up here was the worst play I've ever seen from a Canuck defender. And he's been a below-average AHL defender for the past 3 years.

I'm no Sauve fan or defender, and I certainly don't understand the call up, but this is a huge exaggeration.

The minutes he played during the short call up were low event. I've seen worse stints by a number of Canucks D over the years.

werid.. like everyone says. showcasing perhaps? time for alberts to pack his bags? clearly the coaches have no confidence in him. why resign him in the first place?

I think you must be right. They know that Sauve will barely play but aren't worried about ruining his development like they would with Corrado.

The only logic I can see to calling him up at all is to see if he can provide what Alberts does. Can Sauve be the ninth defenseman if they demote Alberts and for some reason he is picked up? Alberts must be getting waived or possibly Gillis has lost his mind.

I think Alberts play dropped off the cliff this season. He was mediocre last season, but not this bad. I think the reasoning was to bring in a big, physical D-man who could draw into rougher games. He's just made himself into too much of a liability.

People are missing the obvious explanation. Sauve had to be called up in order to make room in the Utica line-up for Sacha Guimond.

Kinda tempting to put on the tinfoil trade hat. Showcasing as part of a deal to Montreal? Some sort of 'throw-in' on a deal for the center we really need, and they want to see him in the NHL?

Or maybe they've decided to make this a 'sink or swim' moment for Sauve.

If its to MTL, hope its a minor deal for Leblanc.

I too agree that its an exaggeration. Worse defenders have manned the blue line here.

Interested to see what he's like in the NHL after all this time.

Now there are a few names I was glad to forget..

On the Sauve news bit, this just screams Torts and Gillis at it, messing with our minds. Maybe a Booth+Alberts trade incoming? Or maybe Sauve is the new Sedin winger? Who knows?!?

The only reason he is here is because Gilly wants to justify the pick. If he was nonuts pick, he'd be playing for UBC by now.
