I didn't follow the MLD closely at all, but every draft I've been in, as long as a player played for a few seasons in one position AND he played that position at near peak level, he's fine for that position.

Of course, GMs try to cheat all the time, like playing Pete Mahovlich at LW, when he he did spend a few seasons there, but everything he did that's worth remembering was at C.

But if a player is proven to play at a certain position at a certain level, I don't see why he couldn't play there here.
I know I had some questions when I picked Jimmy Roberts in the recent MLD. He'd had a long career and played both defense and right wing. He went full seasons playing both positions but it was very common for him to take shifts at either position during the course of a game.

I also picked several players who played all 3 forward positions, with the mind of in-game scenarios where there could be injuries/penalties/etc.... however I would place them on my roster at what was their most dominant position., (ie...Brian Rolston, Tom Lysiak, etc....)

I mean, picking someone like Iginla and using him as the starting LW just doesn't fly IMO.

Most of the time the players who can play on the wings are centers. Very rarely do you see a player that is LW/RW but it does happen and to be frank, I think these draft are a bit too anal when it comes to positions of players.

Yes. You just base it on when he started coaching.

I agree Zidlicky was the best PP guy left when Dave picked him today. I looked at the five best seasons according to adjusted points of the puckmoving defensemen and he had the most PP points of anyone I looked at. Edited in the missing guys.

The only thing keeping Zidlicky from being a top notch PP QB in the NHL is that he doesn't have the best shot. Not surprised he's one of the best at the AAA level.

Also, a pair Devils fan have been tracking zone exits for Devils defensemen this year and has found that Zidlicky is by far the best one on the team at getting the puck out of the defensive zone (don't be too excited, the rest of the Devils defense is terrible at handling the puck).

He's pretty terrible when the other team has the puck, though (soft, poor positionally), so better get him a really good stay at home partner.

Just as a head's up, Neal has played RW with the Pens despite being called a LW on hockeyreference and NHL.com. I think he was strictly a LW as well in Dallas. So I'd play him wherever you want, but that's me.

Everywhere I've looked at for stats says left wing so I'll keep him there. But thanks for the heads up.

I'll take Buzz Boll, LW. He's the best offensive pre-expansion winger left, by a solid 10% margin, and last draft tarheelhockey actually dug up some quotes showing he was a solid, conscientious all around sort of player. No idea why he dropped 200 more picks after that.

And now that I'm done selecting the guys I am scared someone else is gonna draft, I can start making a few slightly more "exotic" picks.

I hope this pick is not to early.. LOL
The Barracudas Select LW Rick " Studly" Dudley. Perfect guy to play with Bonk on the 4 th line.

Im also interested in trading to get an extra pick today if any one is interested. Ideally would like to move Williams i have another guy in mind. Picks for picks works too

I don't think it was that early for Dudley... he's a good 4th liner for the AAA.

Jeez, after the kicking Carter took last season I was shocked to see him move up 100 spots.

Not a fan of Franzen this early, but he's got Carter's numbers plus excellent net presence, and a super playoff history.

Ron Schock, C

Two-way center who captained the Penguins from 1973 to 1977.

"Yeah, I'd like to have him back." admits St. Louis general manager Scotty Bowman, who recently fined his slumping club for not hustling and has tried to reclaim Schock, if only for inspiration purposes.

With our Day 13 pick the Atlanta Knights are proud to select defensive defenseman Bob Plager.

Plager's style of toughness should bode well on the final pairing for the Knights.

Ahahaha maybe a little of my Oilers bias shinning through having watched him play here. But I like the game he plays, he's on a line where he doesn't need to be a go to offensive weapon. But I have my eyes on a couple of other players who might bump him from that line.

Franzen does have an excellent playoff resume, Carter really never had the chance to play in the playoffs since he played on some bad teams.

Schocking pick!

I like Schocky a lot, I was the first to ever draft him. I had him penciled in for my 3rd line until I did some research on Cully and took a flyer on him.

I figured he was a solid fit after Plekanec got picked up.

I thought Boll could have gone in the MLD and just kept passing on him.

I really wanted Plager as well, I think he's a real nice fit on a third pair.
