Unreal. Guns may not kill people, but they sure make it a lot more convenient for people to kill other people.

If you can get over all the girls making their lyrics into FB statuses they have a few decent songs. Misery Business is a legit tune.

There was this kid at my high school who used to rip up any poppies he saw because it "supported the killing of middle eastern people" and he was of Arab descent. What a ****ing joke.

Wholeheartedly agree with this. If you want to be ignorant, be ignorant. But don't be a disrespectful dirtbag idiot about it.

...how was this even allowed to happen? Pretty sure that wouldn't have lasted long around these parts.

I don't have a problem with the white poppy. Started as a women's movement as a symbol to remember war casualties while promoting the end of war during the 30s, I believe. Many of those women were war widows and were supportive of veterans.

Thing is, the meaning is lost on everyone as to what these actually represent.

The Red Poppy is to remember the fallen that fought for your country.

The white is to promote future peace.

Nothing wrong with either of them, they don't disrespect each other in their intended messages..

Right. And as they're meant to be taken, I doubt anyone can take offence at either.

What I'm offended at is the way the white poppy is being re-framed in people's minds and portrayed through the media. It's now being used as an anti-war thing, period, which...
a) demeans the meaning of the red poppy, as if to say it's actually promoting violence;
b) ignores the fact that wars don't just happen because somebody overstayed their welcome at a tea party; and
c) insults those who died or sacrificed in war, as if to say that their deaths were meaningless and irrelevant.

It's a bunch of idealist crap that, as it's framed now, just doesn't take into account the realities of life. It's also a cheap shot at anyone who has or had family, friends or acquaintances in the forces, anyone in the military presently, and anyone who may serve in the future.

Disagree, war is meaningless. People say stuff like "Hitler wouldn't have negotiated" but that ignores the fact that Hitler was like all of us a member of the human race. If we thought of our society as all of humanity instead of as nations or races.

There is also no disrespect intended to the military. People have been told for thousands of years that they are fighting for freedom (or something along those lines) if they believe that is what they are fighting for it is still honorable because the intent is good. It is the war that is evil

Re-read my post, dude. You saw the exact opposite of what I'm trying to get across. War isn't meaningless. People fight for good reasons. And those who discount that piss me off.
