Tomas Fleischmann/Scottie Upshall to the Kings

"Panthers GM Dale Tallon is open to moving some of his players as the team continues its rebuild...they're in the market for young, NHL-proven talent.
It has been widely reported that the likes of forwards Kris Versteeg, Tomas Fleischmann, Scottie Upshall, Brad Boyes, Marcel Goc and Tomas Kopecky...are up for grabs." TheFourthPeriod.com

With that said what would it take to get either Fleischman or Upshall to the Kings?

Perhaps I should have added this part of the article as well
"However, the Panthers aren't believed to be selling some of their top forwards for draft picks and young prospects, they're in the market for young, NHL-proven talent."

I was thinking perhaps Clifford and Muzzin/Martinez for Fleischman. Would have to dump Ellerby for the $

Fleischmann is the best fit for the Kings. Martinez would be involved in the deal I suspect if it did happen.

Dustin Jeffrey + 4th in 2014 for Brad Boyes.

Hopefully soon after, Deryk Engelland is moved for a conditional pick to free up some more cap space. Or Florida can have him too and throw in that "Conditional pick" if they re-sign him and the Pens get a 5th.

I still don't understand why the Oilers haven't traded for Scottie Upshall yet.

Because he's made of glass and has played awful for the last 3 years?

How long have the Kings needed a top-six left-wing now? six years or so? Dustin Brown used to play right wing and the last solid attempt at acquiring a left wing was... Ryan Smyth?

I just don't see where the cap space will come from this season.

If the cap goes up to around $70 million next season, the Kings will have about 4.5 million in space. That's enough for guys like...

Matt Moulson
Dany Heatley
Alex Steen

So uh... great. Kings will try to acquire a left-wing through trade, I guess? That or Tanner Pearson.

Why would anybody want to take on Upshall's contract? He'll be lucky if he's in the league when it expires

I really liked Flash when he was in Colorado. Hope he finds success either with Florida or elsewhere

Assuming Mitchell, Greene and Carcillo each resign for roughly what they are making now, which isn't a huge stretch, and Lewis and Scrivens each get about a $300,000 a season raise, again not hard to fathom, then the Kings would have this for a roster:

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Dustin Brown ($5.875m) / Anze Kopitar ($6.800m) / Justin Williams ($3.650m)
Jeff Carter ($5.273m) / Mike Richards ($5.750m) / Matt Frattin ($1.050m)
Kyle Clifford ($1.075m) / Jarret Stoll ($3.250m) / Tyler Toffoli ($0.870m)
Daniel Carcillo ($0.825m) / Trevor Lewis ($1.600m) / Jordan Nolan ($0.700m)
Tanner Pearson ($0.925m) / Linden Vey ($0.900m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Drew Doughty ($7.000m) / Willie Mitchell ($3.500m)
Slava Voynov ($4.167m) / Alec Martinez ($1.100m)
Matt Greene ($3.000m) / Robyn Regehr ($3.000m)
Jake Muzzin ($1.000m) /
GOALTENDERS
Jonathan Quick ($5.800m)
Ben Scrivens ($0.850m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $68,800,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,959,394; BONUSES: $342,500
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $1,183,106

*Note: I assumed we'd deal someone for a draft pick, so I subtracted King.
**Note: This assumes a salary cap of $68.8 million. If the cap reaches $70 million like you suggested, we'd have just under $2.4 million in free cap space at the start of the season.

Under this scenario, the Kings would have the ability to also demote one of Vey, Toffoli or Pearson (I'm not sure if Vey would be waiver applicable though), and free up about $900,000 in cap space as well.

It's very doubtful LA will spend in UFA, but more likely will swing a trade if they are going to go get a guy. That's all assuming someone else plugged into that role, such as Frattin or Toffoli, don't lock it down. Odds are against that right now, but time will tell.

I've always liked Fleischmann. I would do Martinez + Clifford for him. That I think would be a fair price, gives them two young players, who are NHL proven, with upside. It would also keep the Kings cap compliant, and balance out the roster so we have less of these positional jams.

Upshall can be had at 50% retained. Just someone take him for a conditional 7th or a cap dump that's a UFA after this year.

At 50% retained (if true), somebody will take Upshall, perhaps Phoenix if he is finally healthy, as he had some success there and they need a top 6 LW. Oilers are out as I think he has an limited NMC, he can pick 10 teams he would play for, Oilers are not one of them...
