he's finished, maybe the pens can trade for him giroux while he still has a little value.

This seems to happen every time Crosby is healthy and producing at his peak.
We've seen this with Geno before, no reason to worry about him.

Malkin is at his best when Crosby is injured.

That's how he prefers it, he's said it multiple interviews.

How exactly was it a mistake?

Do some of you not understand that he has Kobasew on his wing until Neal gets back from injury?? lol

Maybe you could stop looking solely at numbers and watch some games, Geno is flying and making things happen. Once he gets Neal back all will be fine. Most dominant and talented out of the big three, yet the most inconsistent in terms of year to year production.

The best hockey of Geno's career was the 09 cup run while Crosby was perfectly healthy and producing at a solid clip, while playing with Ruslan Fedotenko and Max Talbot.

The operative word here: 09 Cup Run = Playoffs

He is simply a more motivated player when he's in the spotlight.. That's not hard to see or even quantify. Obviously as a Pittsburgh Penguins fan you want Evgeni Malkin to stay with your team as long as possible. But as a general NHL fan I would love if Malkin would go to a team like the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, or the Nashville Predators where he would be the undisputed #1 player on the team, #1C and #1 offensive option.

Malkin may have expectations playing for the Penguins but they pale in comparison to what Sidney Crosby receives. While Malkin may "prefer it that way" it doesn't mean it naturally equates to the best product on the ice for the fans. But I'm sure Evgeni doesn't care but any of that noise -- he will be the highest payed player in the league and receive half the negative focus or blame that his contemporaries Alexander Ovechkin and Crosby receive.

So playoffs don't matter when discussing a players best performance?

Not as long as Crosby's healthy, which as history shows us, he won't be the entire season. So yes, he can roar back.

Haven't watched too much of the Pens, but in the Canucks-Pens game, I barely heard Malkin's name mentioned.

Wouldn't count him out. He has a rotating door of 3rd/4th line wingers this season so far. I don't think he has had the same two wingers for more than 2 games yet.

Also I think he is becoming a more complete player.

Work around the net by Malkin and Letang scores on the PP. Malkin is playing a quiet but effective game lately.

At the top of his game, Malkin is better than both Crosby and Ovechkin. And that isn't just stats, its watching him on the ice. The problem is he's inconsistent and doesn't trust his relatively unskilled teammates to carry plays.

Oh great. Let's talk about who's better, Malkin or Ovie. Fascinating. Yawn.

I like that you contributed to it (however dripping with sarcasm it may have been) and then pretended that it was all so very beneath you.

OT: It's barely an 8th of the way through the season, and if we are to believe that this is Malkin's regular pattern (and it does seem that way), then no "roaring back" is necessary.

This is just Malkin being Malkin.

Ovechkin has 3 MVP's, Malkin does not.

Malkin is not better at best they are equals. Ovy also doesn't get excuses made for him, yet Malkin always has a linemate issue or a health issue, when Ovy breaks his foot he's lazy and doesn't care

That both of his wingers are on injured reserve certainly doesn't help matters, but he certainly phoned it in against Toronto tonight.

that's what you get when you use Malkin as a 2C

put him on the top line and he'll thrive

That's nice and all but Toews has no business being mentioned on a thread like this.

Anyways, I agree Malkin gets away with a ton of excuses on here especially compared to Ovechkin and even Crosby. I have Stamkos ahead of him mainly because of his fragility.
