We aren't. We're more worried about why Bortuzzo isn't kept with Maatta and not having a proper back-up than we are about Malkin's offensive production. He has 10pts in 11 games while looking "off." For most players, that's an amazing start, for Malkin, that's a slow start and looking "off" with a decent winger and some grinder getting his lucky day of being his RW, filling in for Neal.

There's a thing called a salary cap.

I'd take Malkin all day over Ovie. Let me know when the Caps actually make it out of the 1st round. And some of Ovies trophies were so undeserved. His hart trophy from last season was the biggest joke ever. How many art Ross trophies does Ovie have? A couple. So does Geno. Is Ovie top 5 ever in a playoff year for points or have a conn smythe despite playing with infinitely better line mates? Ahhh no. Ovie is a good goal scorer but is even more streaky than Malkin point wise as he totally disappeared for almost three years. Plus Ovie might be the biggest joke in the league when it comes to playing defense. Possibly the laziest defensive player in the league. Geno once led the league in takeaways over Pavel for all of his defensive detractors. I'd personally much rather build a team around Malkin than a streaky goal scoring power play specialist like Ovie.

You would even throw in Bozak? How generous!

Neither is Crosby, playing with better linemates too.

Yup. Sadly, we all know this is the only way to bring Malkin up to his full potential. Me and my Buddy that is a diehard Pens fan have been saying it for years, the Pens should trade Malkin. They can practically pick up anyone in the league + in exchange.

If you trade Malkin, you won't get anywhere near his worth back in that trade. He is arguably a top 3 center in the league when he is on his game, and what the Pens fans might feel his value is, it will never amount to that.

I have a question , Do Beau Bennet got a chance to play with Malkin this year? could be a great fit.

Bennett was playing with Malkin, and then in typical Pens fashion, he got hurt. I thought Beau fit really nicely with Geno and Neal. Maybe later this year....sigh.

Let's relax a little bit. Geno is playing with Chuck Kobasew and Jussi Jokinen. Pathetic.

Shero has made Geno's job unnecessarily difficult.

In my eyes Malkin's A-game is the most dominant in the league, that makes him the superior player for me. But Ovi and Sid are undoubtedly more consistent in terms of production.
Ok that's one stretch of games from 5 years ago, Ovechkins body of work is still a cut above Malkin's

For some weird reason, Malkin is pulling a Crosby and starting off slow while Crosby is starting the season on a hot streak. Malkin gets a big game and he's usually fine after that, for now, he's adjusting to a new winger every game it seems, it's either Kobasew, or is Bennett, or D'Agostini, etc with Jokinen being mostly a mainstay there and hopefully he stays there when Neal is back as well. It's tough to play your game when you have no chemistry with a player and lack that puck support also that mystery of "what are that winger's tendencies?"

I'd like to see Bylsma try a Kunitz-Malkin-Jokinen line, but he refuses to break up Sid's line.

I'm not 100% convinced his shoulder is fine, he's not shooting the puck as much as he usually does, Sid almost has 10 more shots on goal than Geno does, that is a little odd. I think Malkin right now is forcing plays and trying to get his wingers going, he's taken on the "I need to make these wingers better" mentality, rather than just doing his thing and finding his wingers when he needs to make something happen on the ice with them. Neal is a huge missing piece on that line because they know where each other are on the ice, they feed off of each other.
well unfortunately for ovy, he doesn't have sidney crosby around to take the pressure off, and he also has a front office that is not nearly as good as pittsburghs

When I read the thread title, instead of thinking of the Ovi thread, I pictured a lion roaring at Malkin, and him trying to roar back

These threads are so silly...Malks is one of the top players in the world in his prime years...yeah...I do not think the Pen fans are worried about him roaring back....every team would love to have this guy!

Another game against the Boston Bruins and another pointless game for Malkin.

Yes I know it is still early.. but why did Ovechkin get such hate (his game was not up to snuff I agree completely) yet Malkin gets such a pass?

He is on pace for 15 goals this year I believe.

The Capitals were awful when Ovechkin was slumping, the Pens are fine and Crosby is beasting. Fair, unfair, whatever, it takes the spotlight off Malkin's scoring troubles

Ehhh, after winning everything a person can win he seemed to stop trying. Then I guess management rode his ass, and made him do an intense workout routine during the offseason. It seemed to help... for a while. He began to slack again towards the end of last season.

This year, it's back to his lazy ways. Malkin is so incredibly talented that I cant ascribe him struggling to anything other than laziness and lack of effort. I just dont think he gives a damn anymore.

Still, Malkin at 75% effort is still better than 90% of the players out there... but he could be so much more.

I can tell by this post you didn't even watch the game, .

He was all over the ice tonight, arguably our best player. He had 2 or 3 really good chances to score but Rask came up with some big saves.

Sure he can. He is one of the best players in the league. He could still win the Art Ross for all we know.
