That literally makes no sense for the Canucks considering Kesler logs more TOI as a forward than Letang would as a defensemen here...

I didn't say you did, but that Canucks fan and Blues fan boy sure think so. I just quoted your post to say he's better than people give him credit for.

Pens have been fine on the back end when Tanger was out. Sid doesn't have anyone to finish or set him up. He literally has to make everything happen alone but with Scuderi getting hurt lastnight any trade for Letang wouldn't happen now.

where do the two legit top-6 wingers and a rock solid top-4 d-man come from? another trade? Cleary is terrible and Samuelsson and Quincey hardly make up the difference. i wouldn't trade Bortuzzo for all of those, let alone Letang.

You need to watch more Red Wings games. If Penguins acquired Samuelsson and Cleary we would finally get to know how could he could be with legit top-6 wingers.

Anyway, I would expect it to take a young top-6 W, a young top-4 D and a 1st for Letang. A couple ideas (assuming 1st is at 15):

JVR, Gardiner, and a 1st
Palmieri, Fowler, and a 1st
Tlusty, Faulk and a 1st (Pens add in this case)
Yakupov, Petry and a 1st

I can't think of any others right now. Basically, it wouldn't be cheap.

...why the hell not? I mean, isn't that the whole point of why y'all have both Crosby and Malkin there?

Yakupov is becoming so undervalued on this site.

Really? Karlsson and Letang... seems reduntant... Cowen is a big steady dman that contrasts Karlsson well. I really like his upside.

Yeah I had that same thought as well. While Karlsson and Letang don't play the same game, Letang doesn't bring anything that Karlsson can't bring.

you don't want Letang. having Karlsson would make Letang redundant. while they're both great defensemen, having two of those players would hurt your defensive depth.

i'm pretty sure my assessment is closer to reality. i mean, you just offered the same exact players for Alex Goligoski in another thread.

He's possibly the dumbest hockey player in the league, and a defensive liability, with an awful contract that kicks in next season.

Pass.

He's pretty decent defensively, but because he's on the Penguins, apparently no one can actually be good without the lame excuse of "It's because of Malkin and Crosby."

Could Letang be better defensively? Most definitely, a lot of the solid top defensemen can be better. I am hoping J.Martin can spend some time with him now that he's back in the line-up and get that sorted out.

There's also the problem of Letang not really having the right defense partner. I like Scuds, but I don't know if they're the right pairing.
Letang has the tools to be good defensively and sometimes can be good. He'll throw the body around and what not but he is prone to some major defensive gaffs. Also it seems like every playoffs he's exposed.

Letang would be desired as skilled skating QB style playmaker D, but there is no match due to several factors.

If there was no penalty on the recapture aspect for any injury (forcing us to amnesty him next year no matter what), something around Brad Richards --- enjoying a resurgence this year --- would be ideal.

I am not a fan of Pens but I saw Letang playing against TML and I was impressed with him. He is good and works hard to carry Pens. Playing over 25 mins after just getting back from the injury. That guy is worth every penny. Physical play has to improve a bit more.

The most important thing is that he doesn't need Crosby or Malkin to score. He can score with anyone on any team. I think people should see him playing whoever is low balling him.
