167: Travis Moen 11gp 17 hits

187: Ryan White 9gp 16 hits

228: Bouillon 11gp 14 hits

391: Tinordi 6gp 8 hits

412: Plekanec 11gp 7 hits

420: Rene Bourque 11gp 7 hits ( WHAT THE **** ? )

442: Blunden 3gp 7 hits ( WOW)

496: Gionta 10gp 5 hits

528: Diaz 11gp 4 hits ( I think he didn't get the message for those who saw 24ch Daigneault asking him to stop play the puck along the board and hit them)

614: Desharnais 11gp 2 hits

So soff..

But seriously, it is sad. Our top 9 is not pretty... actually no, they are too pretty.

Bourque with under a hit per game is simply unnacceptable.

Usually, the team carrying the puck has less hits than the opponents.

Seriously, I dunno.

Emelin and Murray will fix that as well as Prust. Subban could hit more.

The real problem isn't hits it is the total lack of contact that 90% of this team refuses to get in. I don't give a **** about how many highlight reels the habs make they need to start getting in the corners and winning puck battles.

We have lost zero games where the problem was we weren't hitting.

How do you know that?

Hitting the opponent is an important part of the game. If you think hitting a player is useless, just watch Diaz play when a hit is coming. It does make a difference.

Not sure. A very good way to get a player in possession of the puck to turn the puck over is to hit him.

Diaz is a very good example of hitting. He is so afraid of getting hit that he gets rid of the puck very quickly...often leading to a pass to nowhere near a teammate.

Hitting is not the end all to success. It helps though.

hits is so subjective and vary so much from arena to arena that it should always be taken with a giant grain of salt

also, less hits means you have the puck more often

either way: i. dont. care.

Its not surprising. And also no reason to get alarmed. That's not our identity, but some players (our 2 pf's Bourque and Patches) need to hit more.

With all the stupid penalties called after perfectly fine hits so far, im not surprised the D is not hitting that much.

Also i'm not sure why you're surprised by Bourque, do you even watch the games?

Meanwhile, San Jose has 2 guys in the top 200, both bottom-six plugs. Buffalo has 5 guys in the top 80.

What are we proving here, exactly?

The guys in charge of tabulating these stats in Montreal are known for being extremely thorough and do not give out free stats for close calls, which is known to be the fact in many other cities around the league.

Not sure how much of a difference that makes in these standings but it could be part of the explanation.

It means that we are soft and we don't have top talent to compensate that part of the game like and be sucessful like let's say.. the Blackhawks.

The notion that you can make up for a lack of skill with physical play and produce similar results seems to me to be a false narrative, from looking at this list.

It's common knowledge that this statistic is variable from a rink to an other.
