an easier way would be to cheer for a new team. I am less thrilled about sabres playing in vancouver without vanek.

do they just swap name plates? both 26

everyone assumes the Isles will be 15-25, but I wouldn't be shocked if that pick is alot lower then that and around 5-15. They have terrible goaltending and terrible puck possession.

Something else to consider...looks like we didn't retain any of Vaneks salary. We can now take back part of Miller's/any other player we want to trade cap. As others have mentioned, we could also move Molson near the deadline for more assets...and we are loaded in the 2nd round yet again in 2015...3 picks if I am correct....we could utilize those in other deals to get another 1st in 2015.

As Zip brought up though...I was waiting for Strome as well.

Great deal! I gotta a feeling Sam Reinhart is the target in the draft and if they happen to lose the lottery they have the ammo to move and get him.

I think the islanders won this trade.
a 1st round pick won't play in the NHL? 8/9 of the sabres last 1st round picks have played games. The 9th being Joel Armia, who almost definitely will as well.

Absolute right move by the Islanders, I think. Imagine Vanek with Tavares.
Imagine if they had a good goaltender too?

Good luck Tom! It's been a fun 10 years from the NCAA's here in town up until now.

And yeah, Tavares and him if they have any sort of chemistry should be dynamite.

Moulson's been very productive over the last four seasons. Unheralded, but definitely knows how to finish. It'll be interesting how long he's here.

Dude come on pommer returned a 1st 2nd Larsson and Hackett

Kind of a difference don't you think

Gaustad returned a first

Did we retain any salary? We all know the Islanders love to save money.

No kidding Moulson won't re-sign, they won't even want to re-sign him. He's a top 6 body to fill Vanek's place until the trade deadline. The draft pick (there are two) won't ever play in the NHL, even though we have no real idea what place it'll be?

Martin Erat returned Filip Forsberg....who more or less had the value of a 1st round pick.

Moulson is on that level

Holy... just saw this.

That's a pretty solid return. Moulson's a great younger player whom we'll hopefully be able to re-sign (will be interesting to see how he does sans-Tavares), and I can't help but feel that that 1st is going to be top ten. I'm gonna miss Vanek, but that's a great move.

Nice!

I agree. I think the pick will be 15 or less. If they actually make the playoffs I highly doubt they get out of the first round.

Decent return for Vanek. That's now 17 1st/2nd round picks for the Sabres from 2012-2015 - and counting...

Three times in fact. And if there was a full season last year, Matt would have made it 4.

Nice value also helps the tank. I'd imagine Moulson could be flipped for a late 1st at the deadline as well.

Moulson is just about 30, barely younger than Vanek. He's certainly got years left, but he's in his prime if not ready to decline soon.

More Myers-esque 2nd contracts? Seriously though, I wonder what that plan is too. Maybe they can take on bad contracts rather than just signing people to them?
