Two years ago, when Eberle put his best points up, guess who spent a lot of time on the IR. His supposed linemates. His scoring pace was just as impressive when playing with Gagner as his center.

trading Letang is the last thing the Pens need to do to get a winger.

I'd do J Schultz and Eberle. If Yak instead of Eberle, I'd want more, like a 2nd or 1st. Is Petry or Schultz more valuable?

Value? Hard to say, Schultz has more of a name, but Petry has flown under the radar. I'd say Schultz has more trade value, but Petry is a better player. I honestly don't think I'd do it if it were Petry, he's that good (at times, inconsistent). If it were Eberle & J. Schultz, we'd need something coming back with Letang. Eberle and a 2nd for Letang is where I gauge the values, and Schultz has more value than a 2nd.

I was assuming Niskanen was going with Letang as well.

I'd do it as an Oilers fan.

But rather than Niskanen, a useful bottom-6 fwd would be preferable.

You think Pittsburgh has to add to Letang to get Eberle?

Funny thread...

Would the Pens be willing to swap out Niskanen for something else? Maybe something with value?

I played around with Jokinen (who would be a great fit for Edmonton, as he's a talented center who can win draws), however couldn't make it work (even if Edmonton shipped Hemsky back) from Pittsburgh's end. Niskanen seems to work the best for the Pens in terms of the cap, and ability to replace internally. And honestly there's not a lot of options on guys who we could move to accommodate a 6m player in Ebs.

Letang is probably the only piece the Penguins have that could return a legitimate star winger without having to also give up future draft picks in the process. They have valueable prospects on defense, but I don't think any of them are so valuable that they'd bring back a player of Eberle's caliber.

How about Yakupov, J Schultz, rights to Yakimov and Slepyshev (both just drafted this past year, dropped to 3rd round due to Russian factor)? Their rights remain for this year and next, we drafted them because we felt Yak might have enough influence to sway one or both over. Add Malkin to that equation and it looks a lot more likely. (Slepyshev is off to a rough start, but Yakimov is looking quite good this year).

Big Letang fan, just wish he'd pick his spots better when it comes to his ferocity. Guy plays like he's 6'5 250, but seems to leave him injured more often than not.
