I'd love to add Staal the only thing that scares me is I can really see him signing with Carolina after next season.

Love to have Girardi but the only way I would do a deal is if the Ranger let us talk ti him about an extension first.

I'd definitely have to think about it. Although I was wary of how Staal would look after his eye injury. How has he been? Haven't been able to catch a Rangers game this year. Only just caught part of the Montreal game from last night on NHL Network.

And the first would have to be this year's.

Baddaboom baddabing, let's shake things up.
Stop with this nonsense dude. Seriously. Just avoid making any more proposals.

Two 1st pairing dmen. One of the best two-way wingers in the game who happens to be our captain.

No.

Be realistic if you want to be taken somewhat seriously.

Aren't Girardi and Cally both UFA?

Mcdonagh + Staal + Callahan + Nash for Hall, Eberle, Yakupov, J. Schultz, my soul, 2 first round picks, Omark

Why the trouble so far this year then? Being on the road for the entire season so far? Or just having trouble scoring with Nash and Callahan out?

New coach, new system players are adapting to.
50% of our top-6 is out.
Brutal west-coast trip to start the new season.
Lundqvist was injured.

I've been thinking about this trade for a little while and I was wondering how nothing was threaded around McDonagh. I've been watching the Oilers and McDonagh seemed to be the best fit for the young Oilers (even though it hurts to say that as a Habs fan).

Why not make it simpler ?

McDonagh <-> Yakupov + Oilers 1st 2014

I've been seeing the Oilers lacking D rather than a goalie... and it seemed obvious yesterday the Rangers needs someone to put the puck in the net to finish the plays.

If Rangers prefer Hall, it could be..

McDonagh <-> Hall + Oilers 2nd 2014

I might get flamed by both teams, but realistically, I think it should be kept simple and could benefit both teams.

I'm not sure McDonagh is available even with an overpayment.

NYR: Hall, 2014 1st / Edm: McDonagh, 2014 2nd

I would not trade McDonagh for someone risky and less established such as Yakopov.

So what you're saying is I should start betting on them every night...good to know. Well, I appreciate the intelligent, in depth response to my thread. It's hard to find a sensible opinion around these parts. My buddy and I have been discussing the Oilers situation for weeks now, and at least I have one realistic trade proposal to take to him.

Last question: Are you afraid that Staal won't re-sign after his contract expires next year? Has he made it evident that he may head to Carolina?

I'd prefer a legitimate hockey conversation about two teams trading from their positions of strength to address respective weaknesses.

Thanks for playing.

Richards cannot be traded. Cap recapture. No chance in hell we take that chance.

McD is going nowhere. He's not available.

I'm a little worried about the Carolina factor, but he's a home-grown player we haven't had any contract disputes with. Alternate captain. He's a stud defensively. He's over the eye injury.

I'd move him for the right price though. Eberle is not the right price considering our depth at RW.

Barring a team gutting over pay Poile will hold onto Weber until he has sucked as much out of him as he can.

I didn't think I needed the

In all seriousness I'd love to trade for Staal + Callahan. Eberle + work? A significant +, maybe a 1st rounder and a Klefbom or Marincin? Would have to throw in a Nick Schultz for cap purposes.

It's been said already, but the Oilers need a top-two defenseman. Someone who they can put on the ice and not have to worry about their faults.

My prime example of that player would be Brian Campbell. He's a veteran piece who plays a style similar to that of Scott Niedermayer, a guy who Justin Schultz should be molding his game after. Both Campbell and Schultz even played together at the WHC this past summer.

The issues with acquiring him would include his massive contract, which Florida would likely have to be willing to partially take on and more importantly both Florida's willingness to move him and Campbell's willingness to go to Edmonton.

What would Florida expect as a return for Brian Campbell as the main piece in a deal?

With 45% retained? A $4M Campbell?

Oilers making the playoffs this year are very big long shot so they need be looking at next year and beyond:

Fans should lower their expectation to more of a 2/3 (or one with that potential) Teams that make sense for the Oilers to make a deal with are:

-Phoenix: Might not get the true # 1 but with Phoenix wanting another top 6 forward which Hemsky would help with maybe they pry Rundblad or Gormley if the Oilers added something.

-Nashville always seems to need a legitimate scoring threat especially down the middle. Nashville could really use a guy like Gagner who represents what the Oilers have to much of already. With Josi locked up and Jones added to the organization a guy like Klein could be a realistic target.

-Columbus could use an offensive center so Gagner could be something they really value. People will cry that Wiz is overpaid but time/salary inflation has made his contract not that much of an overpayment and if the Oilers should overspend on one area it should be on a 20+ minute a night Dman. Tyutin could also be a target.
