I really think G is in the top 15, somewhere around 12 if I had to pick a number. He's one of my favorite players to ever take the ice, but he shouldn't have ever been in the top 5 discussion (especially number 3 like he was a few months back...)

Just my 2 cents though.
Who is in your top 10?

Unfortunately, this is true. It's really such a subjective description, you can interpret it any way you want. You can vote for say, the guy whose team wouldn't have made the playoffs without him, or say like, even though the Penguins would make the playoffs without Crosby, he's still their most valuable player, so that's fair. I can see both sides of the argument. And I think Giroux should be considered - no matter which side of the fence you're on. I don't think the voters will consider him, though.

Hopefully next year, he can keep up his current pace, from the beginning. I really want to see G take home some hardware and prove the doubters wrong, someday.

He should have been in the top 3 several time in the last few...

Though this is a player who was 2nd in NHL PPG with no teammate in the top 40 and could not get top 3 in the Hart.

Player as in skater + goalie, or just forward?

He's a top 5 forward. Overall he's a top 15 player, I agree. I'm not sure where I'd put him though in that 15.

He's a top 5 forward and a top 10 player fairly easily.

Crosby, Malkin, Weber...those are the only three I automatically put above him...

Even the Stamkos and Toews stuff is kind of iffy.

I'd take Stammer and Toews over Giroux. I'd put Giroux right after though.

Crosby
Toews
Malkin
Stammer
Giroux

Toews I think is the #2 player in the league. His point production might not be where Giroux's is, but he's a better all-around player.

Stamkos is the best pure scorer this league has had in a long time, maybe Bure?

Somebody could figure out one, maybe another discussion.

Stamkos is easily Top 5

Toews needs to learn to keep his head up, though.

Of the 23 times (15 different players) a 90 point season has been hit since 2008-09 1 player has over 2 minutes PK time in the year they hit 90:

Claude Giroux.

Quite a nice stat.

Toews is surrounded by some of the finest scoring talent in the league and he is the number 1 center on the highest scoring team and he is 8 points under a ppg pace. Guess how often the number 1 center for the highest scoring team in the league scores under a ppg?

Yeah but that team is pretty well spread out in terms of their scoring. They have two lines that are essentially top lines on other teams. I'm not much of an advanced stats guy but I know people love to throw them out there so take this FWIW, but Toews seems to pretty well blow Giroux out of the water in the advanced stats department. (*Note I don't much understand advanced stats so I may be reading them incorrectly).

In an odd twist of fate...

EVPPG when weighted against TOI/G and CORSI Rel QoC

Implies that the order actually goes...

1. Crosby
2. Toews
3. Malkin
4. Giroux
5. Stamkos

Stamkos' career shooting percentage is at like, 18% or something crazy. That's about a full 10% above the league average. It's nuts.

The thing that gets me with this list, that I don't see brought up too often (because it may mean nothing), is that the 4 other players on this list all play with another superstar player. Crosby has Malkin. Toews has Kane, and Stamkos had St. Louis. I'm curious now how well Stamkos will do without St. Louis...

Again, it probably doesn't mean a thing, but it's something I've been curious about.

Edit: I want to clarify that I know some of the players I listed don't play on a line together, but it does force the opponent to make the choice of who to play their top defenders against.

He's doing fine considering he came off a major injury as well so far (13GP 9G 11P).

Wow, that's already been 13 games. March really flew by...

Anyway, that's pretty damn good. He's on pace for nearly 30 goals, even having missed more than half the season. Crazy.

I'm not sure Stamkos has topped Ovechkin at his peak yet, but he definitely has the skill to do it. I wish he had stayed healthy this year.

The defenseman need more love in the conversation of top five player. Weber IMO is an undisputed top five player. Giroux is top 10. I think he needs another good playoff run and season to be top 5.

It's as if Ovechkin never existed sometimes on these boards!

Even though they are viewed as "homers" the announcers last night did make a good point that Giroux doesn't really get the credit he deserves as one of the top players in the league. Some people recognize it, but not enough.

Be nice to even get some one who scored 30 goals seasonally before playing with Giroux. I'd imagine a nice increase in numbers.

At this point maybe, but he was arguably the best player in the world his first couple seasons.

People seem to forget that, being as Crosby has distanced himself in recent years, but Ovechkin was considered the more complete player at one time due to his physicality. Crosby isn't a great defensive player as it is now, but he was much less interested in defense when he first came into the league.
