Well, the Wild and Gaborik aren't even negotiating right now. It seems to me that a signing is more likely if they actually talk to each other.
As for Dupuis, I was STUNNED to see the Wild's latest contract offer. It was in either the Pioneer Press or the Star Trib., but the Wild called up Walsh and offered Dupuis the identical contract that they offered him 2-3 weeks ago. 4 years/$3.12 million or a 1 year, $385,000 deal. The later offer is really quite insulting. I've been an ardent supporter of Risebrough and Lynn, but $385,000 is horrid *considering Dupuis' talent*. They're giving him a choice. Sign long-term with the full expectation of being underpaid by Year 4, or sign short-term with the full expectation of getting underpaid by Year 1. The Wild know he won't take the 1-year deal and they're trying to rein him beyond the CBA for a bargain. I expected a little more from the Wild than that 1-year offer.
But did Walsh even counter the Wild's last offer to Dupuis? He's famous for not making counter-offers. If he didn't, the Wild are doing exactly what they ought to do. It's the agent's job to counter, not the team's job to counter their own offer.
Wild_Thing, I thought Walsh faxed Lynn a 1-year and 2-year proposal for Dupuis a little while ago as a counter. The papers said the 2-year deal was similar to Huselius' deal. 2 years, around $2.5 million total. Don't quote me on that though.
How much is Gaborik's camp asking for? I've heard something hear form someone within the Oilers organization who is fairly tight with Doug Reisbrough but I won't say it until you tell me what you've heard.
