It wouldn't surprise me if, assuming that this rumour has any legs at all, the trade centered around Cowen and Huberdeau. I remember that Ottawa's scouts really liked Huberdeau in his draft year...but I think that it would have to be a decent + with Cowen to get him.

Remember, they did say 'young scoring forward'. There's no way it's Boyes or Fleischmann IMO.

I think Versteeg, Matthias and Huberdeau are the most likely targets and Cowen (hold-out, inconsistent play) would be the most likely going the other way. No goaltenders are moving.

Why would Florida trade huberdeau? They wouldn't.

MacArthur Turris Ryan
Greening Spezza Versteeg
Conacher Zibanejad Michelak
Condra Smith Neil

I can see adding a Kris Versteeg

Yeah, no way they are trading Huberdeau. I'd give up Ceci/Cowen + Anderson with no second thought.

Yes, but at what price? Hopefully it's not Andy.

I agree with this, I seem to remember when we were playing at our best before the lockout season, forwards would pass the puck back and retry to break into the offensive zone, rather than dump it and give it away. THAT was puck possession, we'd send it back rather then let the other team have it.

I wonder what changed....

Another note...there was a mention earlier in the season that Matthias was being called about. He was drafted by Detroit so there may be a connection to MacLean (though a bit of a stretch). Not to mention he's very defensively responsible and a great skater which both would fit in well in Ottawa.

Would be over the moon for Goc if only for the faceoff talent. Also rather underrated in every other aspect of the game. He's a useful little fella.

You have no idea how good Marcel Goc is

Why not Lehner is ready

Unless its a young player ....Its probably going to have to be a dollar for dollar deal

Andy for Versteeg

roughly 1 million dollar difference in salary and Versteeg is 5 years younger

Goc would probably be the most useful pickup but he doesnt fit the description. I'd love it if we acquired him.

He seems ready, but he hasn't played enough for me to anoint him as the starter. Plus do you want to face Andy 4 or more times a year? If we do trade him, I'm hoping he goes west.

Yeah, Goc was amazing in 2011-12. reDQlessly good. ELITE stuff, and imo the reason why Florida made the playoffs.

False, we can use another consistent and healthy top six forward.

Right now it's Spezza, Turris, MacArthur, Ryan. Conacher and Zibanejad have potential but aren't yet established. Michalek IMO is outta here by season's end. If we acquire someone during the season it can save us from cashing out on a UFA.

FWIW i believe we will definitely retain Michalek if we can get him without a raise.

The follow-up tweet referring to the 'trade winds' suggests it could be someone from the minor leagues.

Young scorer...there's really nobody on the team that meets that defintion that I could see Florida parting with; most likely it would be someone from the AHL.

What would it take to land Vincent Trocheck? Probably Wiercioch or someone of similar value.

My money is on Shawn Matthias as the guy we've targeted. No idea what we'd be giving up though.
