I don't know, but I'm pretty sure the only reason you see Coburn in a million different proposals here is because he was rumored to be coming here at the draft. He is a questionable "upgrade" on what we already have.

That being said, Petry is massively overrated here. His play on the first Red Wings goal last game was so awful. I was looking at the hilight again and he more or less stops skating once Helm beats him, he has to at least try to take a penalty on something like that. You need to be trying on a play like that, dive or skate faster, slowing down was just sad....

The scary thing is that he might actually be the best Oilers defencemen, sorry, but I don't think Petry would be anywhere near the top 2 on most NHL teams...

Smith - Pelley would be a nice addition to our timid top 6. A big winger who loves to hit and is on the way up

Boyle, Pyatt and Del Zotto
for
Hemsky, Eager, N Schultz and a 2nd...

??

Gives us some size for the bottom six. Rangers get Hemsky as the most useful player right now to try and make the playoffs. Can use top 6. Del Zotto gets a change of scenery and perhaps a chance to shine. We'd probably have to do better than that, but a thought.

Messier work for the Oilers now? Or is it an impromptu Boys on the Bus reunion?

If Eberle goes, i hope we get one of the better d-men out of New York (Staal, MacDonaugh).

Maybe something like B.Richards and a 1st round pick for Hemsky works for both teams. If Richards does not work out, we buy him out in the off-season. I don't think we should be re-signing Hemsky anyway.

He works for the Oilers. Seems like he took it personally that Slats went and hired Vigneault instead of giving him a change behind the bench, he left the Rangers organization.

He's licking his chops at Eakins' performance thus far.

Yikes: Lowe, MacT, Messier, Buchberger...They should hire Gretzky as a coach or at least PR guy and the cups should come pouring in.

I bet Messier would be a better coach for this team than Eakins.

I actually wouldn't mind Messier as an associate type guy. Could not be worse than Uncle Fester. Or maybe he could, who knows. Our PP blows though.

And while we are it, why don't we get MacDonaugh off of them for Dennis Grebeshkov--1st round pick with tons of potential yet to be fulfilled.

In hindsight, Eakins should probably not have been hired to begin with. I am all for giving him the full season, but I don't believe anything will come out of it. It looks like the team has already checked out on him.

Well ya, but Girardi is actually a likely candidate

Yeah I'd take 1/2 the Rangers team right now.

My latest go at a 2014-2015 roster:

*Eberle for Simmonds and Rinaldo

*Gagner, N. Schultz, 2015 2nd, Marincin for Ehrhoff and Ott

*Sign: Hiller, Stastny, Trevor Lewis, Emery
**Re-sign Hemsky

Hall-RNH-Simmonds
Perron-Stastny-Yakupov
Ott-Gordon-Hemsky
Joensuu-Lewis-Pitlick

Ehrhoff-Petry
Smid-Ekblad
Ference-J. Schultz

Hiller
Emery

If we end up moving up and out of Ekblad range, is there a 2nd pairing veteran d-man we could grab out of free agency?

Definitely looks like we'll be in the running for Ekblad. On the bright side he's exactly what we need in a prospect. #1 potential, NHL-ready.

We need a #1 dman either way though, or at least someone capable of handling top matchups. For us to properly develop Nurse and maybe Ekblad, we can't just throw them to the wolves. We need to insulate talent like that if we want them to become top pairing dmen in the near future.

They need to add to the mix before they start deleting from it.

Management is forced to go get guys like Tootoo, Eaves, etc, because there's been no drafting after the first round over the last 10 years.
