Hemsky is worth more than a 3rd round pick and a prospect. Some team looking for top 6 help will trade for him at the deadline, assuming he doesn't get injured. He's played quite well this season.

I disagree as an oilers fan, Hemsky at 5M is going to holdback his trade return. He isn't playing very good this year IMO - his start last year would get him the type of return you would expect, but this year he may either get a 3rd and a prospect or a player in a similar situation.

I think people look at draft positions and don't bother looking at stats or gameplay. My god.

Lol nope. He has been absolutely terrible for the past two seasons for Flyers. He is like larger and worse version of Smid.

At the trade deadline that 5M hit will be much less, and the Oilers can always retain salary to get a deal they like. Proven top 6 players are almost always in demand heading into the playoffs. So long as Hemsky can continue to put up points and not get hurt, I expect him to return much more than a 3rd and a prospect at the deadline. Perhaps even a late 1st.

Tootoo on waivers.

Oilers should claim him.

No. He's not an upgrade over anyone on our fourth line and he'd just be taking up a free roster spot.

Agreed, he's definitely a guy I'd want. He's been good this season, heard that Red Wings wants to give Nyquist some time with the big club.

One better, we had damn well better claim him. Claim him and send Eager packing to OKC once and for all.

He's a definite upgrade on Eager. Eager doesn't show the desire to go out there and finish checks on a consistent basis.

We need the roster spot much more than we need Tootoo. If we could dump Eager for futures and swap in Tootoo, then sure. but I'd prefer to have more maneuverability than another 4th line guy who brings nothing but hitting.

He's a RW but honestly, he's a gamer and he comes from winning, structured programs. He has had his personal demons but worse case. You waive him again. He's worth a grab at this point

Lol everytime I see (1) Twitter in one of the tabs my heart takes a couple of extra beats. I'll be disappointed if nothing happens today.

So... lets burn a free roster spot so we can add a player with basically no hockey skills beyond throwing a check when the team needs players who excel in puck possession and the team is already in the top 10 in the league in hits?

That sounds like a waste of a roster spot.

I'm not gonna hold my breath. Every time there's a move like this there's a ton of optimism about a deal but nothing materializes.

There is no point in claiming Tootoo, plus his contract is terrible so I expect Oilers to claim him by tomorrow morning.

He is a clear roster upgrade, you claim him and move out other bodies if you see a potential trade on the horizon.

You asked if he was an upgrade. I pointed out that he is.

I never said I would claim him.

But if that trade doesn't happen we're back at 49 contracts and behind the 8-ball again.

No debate he's any upgrade. But he's an upgrade to the 4th line. Out 4th line sucks, but a better solution would be to play them less and keep 2 free contract spots, imo.

Unless a team wants to take on Eager, I see no reason to grab Tootoo. Sorry bud, but I guess we aren't going to see eye to eye on this one.

I'd take Tootoo over both Eager and Gazdic every day of the week. If we could offload those two, I'd be all over a waiver claim on Tootoo.

I hope your right, but I would rather Ales become the player we all wanted him to be and stay in Edmonton - but he does need a change of scenery - I would love to see him in San Jose for the sake of his own success.
