I hope not, he's not worth roster spot 50/50.

It seems a trade may be in the works...

I want to see Yakupov retained, and Eberle and/or Gagner be dealt.

Yakupov brings an edge that both of them lack... and Sam is still Sam - soft on his man and on the puck.

The Oilers apparently far prefer Eberle and Gagner than Yakupov.

I'd almost prefer he was traded rather than be healthy scratched in favour of Linus flipping Omark.

Really the only things that matter on this team in the regular season are winning and making the playoffs. and the only things that matter in the playoffs are winning and snatching up the cup. I'd like to sign some players who know what it takes to do that, with playoff experience like Boyle (UFA) and Girardi. Please no more hot dogs on this team who care about stats.

I would like to think this will put some of these and ridiculous rumors and proposals to bed, but...

what if we made a deal for Gigiure from COl and then used the next 3 years to stock up the Goaltending pool so we have a legit starter coming up through the system?

Jordin Tootoo would simply be a $1.9M layer of duct tape over a gushing leak on this sinking ship. MacT already threw patches over it with the MacIntyre and Gazdic claims. Tootoo would hardly be any better than Brown and would carry a much heftier price tag.

If MacT claims him tomorrow, they might as well fire him on the spot, because it'd show everyone that he doesn't have a ****ing clue what he's doing here.

I dunno man, I don't see Hemsky's consistent inconsistency garnering a 1st round pick unless we catch someone who's desperate.

I could see maybe a 2nd or a 3rd and a prospect but, the fact is, he's a fragile 2nd liner. Even IF he doesn't get injured this year it'll likely be considered an outlier.

In terms of availability I think we're probably looking at Eberle/Yakupov (pick one), J. Schultz, Hemsky, Gagner.

Eberle: I don't know what happened to his offensive instincts but they seem to have been flushed down the toilet and there have been more than a fair share of lazy/disinterested plays.

Yakupov: Seeming unwillingness to learn the defensive side of the game, floating too much, not producing at an acceptable level.

J. Schultz: DISASTER in his own end, good offensive skills - perfect for a team that needs a 3rd pairing PP specialist, Larsen can take his spot.

Hemsky: The ONLY way I see us trying to keep him is if one of Eberle or Yakupov are traded and, even then, I'm not sure it's a great idea. Shows offensive abilities time and again but then disappears for long stretches. How many inconsistent, soft players can we have in our top-6?

Gagner: Disaster defensively, good offensively, so-so in the dot. I'm not entirely sold on Arcobello yet but if we need to package Gagner for a goalie or a #1 D-man I do it in a heartbeat and have Arco fill his spot until another solution can be found, or Arco fills his shoes.

We should be able to package that into valuable pieces we NEED to progress as a team.

Anyone else terrified about the idea of trading with NYR? Sather has a reputation for fleecing his fellow GMs.

I think $1.9 M woth of duct tape might help things.

Quoted for Truth. The odds of winning a deal with Sather isn't that great. Although MacT/crew did a good fleece job in the Perron deal.

The Perron deal wasn't exactly a "fleecing", the blues needed the trade to open cap space. So ofcourse St.Louis wasn't going to win a semi cap dump.

That was a good deal for sure, but if it was Slats instead of MacT, St. Louis would've been the team adding the draft pick. The guy is a salesman.

Disregarding the coach's words for one second (it would mean alot more coming from the GM than from the coach), what would general consensus be if we traded Yak and Nick Schultz for the Schenn brothers?

It's about the only thing I can see working if we are in fact looking to make a deal with the Flyers. Fills a couple needs for us with kids that still have a lot of upside.

Luke has been so bad he's been a healthy scratch.

Essentially Yak vs Brayden Schenn. I take Yak a 100 times out of 100.

Nick Schultz > Luke Schenn, Yakupov > Brayden Schenn.

Yak just got the old "vote of confidence" from a coach who has been clueless from the day he was hired.

I'll believe it when Mactransparent says something.

A deal with the Flyers makes very little sense for the Oilers (or the Flyers). Both teams need to upgrade D and goaltending so a deal involving D really makes no sense unless its just a change of scenery deal.

The only thing that might make sense from the Oilers' perspective is something around Couturier. Kid is exactly what we need. Big C that knows how to play both sides of the puck, is committed to keep the puck out of his net more than he is scoring, and can shut down opposing forwards.

If it weren't for the fact that his brother also plays there, Luke Schenn would be the perfect buy low type player that we should be looking for. He's also a RHD who could be a good 18-20 minute guy when this team starts to roll.

Perfect project for Eakins.
