EDM and PHI-Proposal#52

Both teams are in need of a huge shakeup. Both need defence and goaltending, this trade won't address that. Instead it will be a swap of grit from Philly for skill from Edmonton.

To Edm:
B.Schenn
L.Schenn
Hartnell

To Phi:
Gagner
Hemsky
Petry
Fedun

/bracing myself for intense flaming...

If you're bracing yourself for flaming, it's probably a bad offer.

Counter offer : yakupov and Eberle for coburn

I guess it helps the Flyers a bit on D as Petry is better then Schenn . However Gagner had a promise from MacT he will not be traded and i am sure the Flyers have zero interest in Hemsky . Take Hemsky out and Add Yakupov and it is closer . However i would Expect the Flyers to want Eberle . Deal would probably be more like . Schenn, Schenn, Hartnell for Petry , Fedun Eberle / Yakupov . I am sure MacT would push Yakupov and I am sure the Flyers Gm would push for Eberle and in the end they would not make a deal this big

Well we are giving up our best d-man and downgrading on D... but.... Philly is going to have a lot more to complain about IMO.

Plus Gagner has a NTC.

Not enough value coming to Philly. It is basically Schenns + Hartnell for Gagner and Petry. Not good for Flyers.

Thank you Oilers fans for seeing how bad this is for Philly. No deal...not even close.

Maybe proposal #53 will be better.

The Flyers have averaged 1.6 goals for and 2.8 goals against so far this season. Mason has a 2.42 gaa and a .922 save %. If the Flyers need anything, It's something to kick the offense into gear. Trading away our leading scorer for anything other than a top 3 winger or a #1 defenseman probably isn't a good idea.

What about something like this:

to Edm: Simmonds, Coburn, Laughton
to Phi: Eberle, Smid, Marincin

It seems fairly even value-wise although I may value Marincin more highly than some. It gives the Oilers some size in the top 6 along with a guy who can play top pairing minutes and it gives the Flyers a top scoring winger to play in their top 6.

Drop Coburn and Smid (too close to even value). Probably drop Marincin.

Simmonds + Laughton for Eberle.

I think that's probably even value, though I doubt either team does it.

I'd do Eberle and Petry for Simmonds Coburn and Laughton. Tweak if required

Value is fair.

But,

To happen for Oiler would have to Switch Yak for Eberle and they should do it only because I don't see MacT trading Eberle as him and Hall are BFF and Nuge is only one with #1 center potential.

I understand why Flyers fans would want this. And I understand why Oilers fans would want this.

Flyers fans, y'know, want to get better.

Oilers fans, on the other hand, have been away from the playoffs for so long that they forget how to get there. And downgrading skill for "grit" is not the way. Our fans have this stupid inferiority complex whereby they see a player who is taller than 6 feet, has a reputation for throwing a big hit, and is able to take a regular shift and they're willing to mortgage the future for him.

I'd trade Smid for Coburn-- maybe some picks to even it out.

Laughton doesn't get me excited. Sounds basically like Marcel Goc is his upside-- another mid-round player with decent offense. A nice player to have, but not the biggest of difference-makers.

Eberle for Simmonds, while a huge upgrade in "grit," whatever the hell that even means, is an even bigger downgrade in skill. I'll take a 70 point player who doesn't hit anybody over a 45-55 point player who does, ANY day of the week. If Simmonds were also a centre who was lights out defensively, I'd consider it. But just because he hits doesn't make up for the 20ish point shortfall.

I'd sign off on this deal. I think Marincin would be a good fit in Philly too, probably the meanest d-prospect we have and he's got some size to him, and while I value him highly as well we have two d prospects who play the same side as him in Klefbom and Nurse who the organization has a higher value on.

More like RNH, Eberle++ for Giroux and Giroux alone. Regardless, he isn't being traded barring massive overpayment.
