Adding Girardi and Del Zotto improves their atrocious defense exponentially. Ference/Girardi gives them a veteran shutdown pairing who can match up against top end talent, and MDZ/Petry gives them a solid 2nd pairing who can get favorable offensive starts and add points.

Girardi and Del Zotto are the whipping boys around here, but they're absolutely valued around the league.

I'm really not sure where the Rangers go from here. How many times can you recycle the damn roster? You've given ample opportunity for the vets to show how good they are. You've given kids like Miller and Fast an opportunity, as well. So when AV reaches this "deadline" of his, what is he expecting Sather to do? Infuse some skill around the peripheral of this team and hope it works out? All the while, we don't even know if Nash will be back.

Vigneault better watch out this stuff. Criticize King Sather's roster and he'll be the next coach to find himself in the stockades.

Yakupov had as many more goals and assists in 48 NHL games last season than Kreider did in 48 AHL games. I'm encouraged by Kreider's start to the season, but robrochordspls.

Currently I'm on the fence if I'd rather lose/trade Nash than loose both mdz and girardi..

Nash is one head shot away from retirement, hasn't scored the big goals so far but has played good..

As long as we keep McD, I'm happy..

Every player is one hit away from retirement.

I don't want to get rid of Kreider, a kid who paid his own way to practice/play with players in the Rangers organization and is just starting to come into his own here. Like was being said before, he's the kind of player you want more of. I'd go as far as to say Miller is in the same class as Kreider, another guy you want playing on your side. Once/If he puts everything together too, those two are going to be absolutely lethal.

This Matheson guy proposed this in the morning

How about Hemsky for Del Zotto? Hemsky's $5 mil salary an impediment to most trade talks though
https://twitter.com/NHLbyMatty/statu...21060004462592

Quote:
Oilers’ MacTavish won’t trade his big guns–Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or Jordan Eberle–but the door might be slightly ajar for Yakupov who is having a miserable offensive second NHL season after a fine 17-goal rookie year. But Hemsky is almost surely being shopped by the 3-10-2 Oilers who need to get bigger and better defensively, and certainly Rangers’ coach Alain Vigneault, formerly running the Vancouver Canucks’ bench, would have seen lots of Hemsky over the past seven or eight years. And, it’s no secret the Rangers can’t score (26 goals in 14 games) and they sorely miss the concussed Rick Nash on the wing, and Hemsky can put up points, as long as he stays healthy.

His $5 million salary is definitely an impediment to any team taking him on but the Oilers would have to take salary back, or maybe they could pick up some of the right-winger’s wage. When Thomas Vanek was dealt to the New York Rangers, the Sabres agreed to pay close to 20 percent of his $7.1 million cap hit..

Who would the Oilers be looking at in New York. Leftwinger /centre Chris Kreider’s name immediately comes to mind, although since being recalled from the minors six games ago, he may be their best forward. They may have absolutely no interest in dealing a player with his size and skill but I’m sure the Oilers have asked about him. He fell out of favour there after a fine playoff in 2012 when he left Boston College, and only had two goals and three points in 28 NHL games last year. But he’s 6’3″ and 230 pounds and he can really skate. He played 19 minutes in the Rangers loss to the Ducks Monday.

He’s what the Oilers need–a winger with size and the speed to keep up, and he’s only 22. He’s in the last year of his entry-level contract at an $800,000 cap hit. The Oilers have long liked defenceman Michael Del Zotto, too. He had his best game of the season against the Ducks. He makes $2.55 million and is a restricted free-agent after this season.

Matheson is proposing Hemsky for DZ or Kreider.

When did Kreider play center?

Hemsky has 3 goals and Yakupov has 1.

Another lateral move. Imagine what a package of Girardi and Callahan would bring back from the Oilers. Both players are exactly what the Oilers need. MacT spoke of taking the next step and that they need to be bold in making moves.

If Hemsky is the answer I don't get the question.

For MDZ/Kreider is comical.

Girardi will be a UFA at the end of the year and I doubt they would trade for him, and risk losing him. I think they may be looking at Staal and possibly Miller. I don't think DZ is the type of Dman they're looking for, since they have that in Schultz, and Miller would seem to fit the profile they're looking for up front. Would that get it done for Yakupov? I don't know how I would feel about that.

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal and Terry Jones of the Edmonton Sun like to reminisce about the good old days when the Oilers were the kings of the NHL. Their old buddy Slats. Edmonton spent all summer shopping Hemsky. Matheson would constantly write about Hemsky and he couldn't understand why another team had not traded for him in the summer. He proposed Hemsky for Gaustad who is signed for this and the next two seasons at $3.25M.

Quote:
Nashville has one NHL RW Patric Hornqvist. Surely they could use Hemsky but they might try to send EDM centre Paul Gaustad at $3.25 million
https://twitter.com/NHLbyMatty/statu...71977249533952

Now Hemsky is worth Del Zotto.

yep he is. Which is why I would take a chance on him if it cost peanuts. He could just need to get out of EDM. I have no idea why they signed him a few yrs ago it was stupid as he was already going down in pts per yr.

Yeah, I'm really not ready to trade Kreider for anyone that's been mentioned recently. He was a revelation in the 2012 playoffs, then he had a down year and now he's bounced back to be that same player from 2012 - and more - this year.

Granted, it's a fairly short sample size, but it's not a surprise - it's what they projected him to be all along. If I'm moving Kreider, I'm only moving him for a young star withOUT question marks. There's no way I'm moving him for a potential headcase/flight risk or a fragile UFA. (In other words, I'm probably not moving Kreider any time soon.)

The reason that MDZ's name comes up a lot is that he's had some stretches of brilliant play in his relatively young career. He's exactly the kind of guy that you would want to target in a trade, especially if you had room to play him at his natural LD position, which is where he's had almost all of his success in the NHL. The bloom is off the rose to a little bit with him - and so it makes sense to move him for another guy where the bloom is off the rose a little bit (for example a talented winger who may have an ego problem and might flee to the KHL).

Kreider, on the other hand, appears to be blossoming. His value is soaring. If he didn't go for Rick Nash, there's no way he goes now.

MDZ + Kristo + MSC (Edmonton Oil King connection) for Yakupov.

I don't want any part of Hemsky. The guy put up his best point total the season everyone put up their best point total, and that was 77 points. I don't have any sources on that claim, but it seems like whenever I'm looking up stats everyone's best seasons came in 2005-06. I just don't think we need an often injured playmaking winger.

I'm not fond of Yakupov, plus I'm scared of the KHL thing. Not to mention Edmonton probably wants a huge package for him. Maybe in a couple years when his going price is a 3rd round pick like Filatov and Grachev.

I would do that trade instantly...I think they'd want Miller though. Not enough two way forwards on that team.

Haggling over Miller?

The real issue is I can guarantee you Edmonton wouldnt be particularly interested in a deal where Del Zotto is the centerpiece for Yakupov -- unless, of course, Yakupov is an even bigger malcontent than he seems to be.

I doubt Sather would even think about trading CK unless its for a elite scorer, especially the way CK has played since being called up
