Locke Do we have to sign him this year???

considering he entered draft one year after he was eligible, and was one year older then last years draft class, so do we get two years or one year to sign him??

I'd say it's two year after being drafted, and not after being eligible... I am not sure, but it would just seem illogic if it wasn't that way...

Pretty sure that a team holds the rights to a player for two years after he's drafted, regardless of age.

We do not have to sign Corey Locke this summer. I would think they do though. Urquhart as well. Both will learn more in Hamilton under Jarvis playing against pro hockey players. But we'll see when camp rolls around next year if they are signed or not.

I disagree with everyone that states that the Habs will have
2 years to sign Locke. I'm pretty sure it is only 1 year.
Why I say that is based on a similar situation back in
1999, when the Habs drafted Matt Carkner. He was 18,turning
19 at the time of the draft; I think the cut-off date for
determining a player's age is Sept.15 of the draft year.
The Habs had only 1 year to try and sign him, and after they
failed to do so, he became a UFA.

Here's a URL which contains the NHL's CBA. There's a section
in it that describes the details about the draft. I have
to read it fully to understand it, so I'm not sure if it
supports my argument or not, yet.

Nope. We do NOT have to sign Locke. Carkner wasn't offered a contract cause he stinks.
