Devils put Rostislav Olesz on waivers today but GM Lou Lamoriello said it doesn't mean he will be sent to Albany if he clears.

Chere with the breaking news. He is on top of it.

Second bit is interesting though. Where does Olesz go if he clears?

IMO the game that changed this season was the blown lead in Edmonton. I believe if we close out that win like we should have, we probably wind up doing alright this year or at least on the bubble somewhere. Maybe just outside, maybe just inside.

We do realize it is November 4th right? We are starting to do postmortems only 14 games into the season. There is still a lot of hockey left and lots of things could happen both good or bad. We could get worse, trade guys off for picks, not trade them. We could get rolling and then all these posts vanish.

Talking in absolutes about a season that isn't even quarter done yet.

I just don't see it getting any better. Obviously we're not in a giant hole yet, but we're gonna need a 3 or 4 game winning streak starting the next game for me to believe in anything.

He goes where Butler went.

I'm pretty sure he can stay with the NHL team.

What pisses me off is the team didn't even show up to play Philadelphia. A team they ALWAYS show up for. Last night I didn't see much effort after the 1st period either. They checked out after the 1st.

Don't get it.

Olesz isn't the problem. He's crap but he isn't the problem. Plus what do you even get for Olesz? A 6th? Joy.

Jon Merrill is seeing a neurologist today. He flew back with the team but may have suffered a concussion in NHL debut.

Rich Chere ‏@Ledger_NJDevils 9m
Lou Lamoriello on Merrill: "He got quite a jolt. He was OK to travel. We're not going to send him down. We've got to make sure he's healthy"

Damn it

Difficult to read into that. Is it supposed to be encouraging that he's able to travel?

Keep him around Lou. He's probably your best D-Man. Jettison one of the dinosaurs.

Hell at this point I'm fine trading Greene or Zidlicky with Ryder if it means getting a good young forward or a top line d in return.

What would Edmonton give for Greene AND Marek?

We need a 3 or 4 game winning streak to try and get this back at 500.

Honestly our PP derailed and deflated the team, but I am not surprised it did. Elias and Zajac are missed doubly on the PP.

We lose like that a few games with close to a full lineup that is a different story.

I just don't get the waiving though because we don't need the spot right now, unless this is all preparation for Clowe's return.

I'm thinking Merrill is going to be ok. Just because I'm generally optimistic. However I do believe he won't be sent down until he gets one good game in. Lou won't hold this injury against him.

I don't think anyone would hold the injury against him, but they won't risk him if they feel he is hurt because he is a prized asset.

IF he can go I would definitely like him to get one full game in up here so he doesn't have to spend the year dwelling on yesterday being his first and only NHL experience. Don't want him to get down because of that.

We should be because if it was a serious enough concussion, he wouldn't have been able to fly on a plane this shortly thereafter because of the changing levels in air pressure

I hate when people say "so and so isn't the problem"

if they are playing crappy then yes, they are part of the problem and there is no reason to have them in the lineup. that goes for Olesz, Gionta, whomever.

If you have a serious concussion, they generally don't want you on airplanes immediately after.

Olesz hasn't really added anything (I was wrong about that one, I thought he'd be halfway decent) so really no big deal we're trying to shed him. If anything he'll likely stay if he doesn't get claimed, they're just trying to give away his contract/roster spot and as others have said, it's not like they need to move him yet unless Clowe's suddenly made a miracle return, or they're planning on keeping eight D around - the latter of which is possible because Lou loves dragging his feet whenever he can.

I'm 99% sure that bringing in Olesz was strictly Pete's idea since he loved him in Florida and still raved about him during training camp here.

Awards:
Olesz should help Albany anyway, since they've just lost arguably their two best players in Merrill and Gelinas.

And it actually is good news that Merrill was well enough to travel. If he'd suffered a severe enough concussion, they'd never have let him go on the plane.
