2 goals and 4 assists is not what I'd call feasting, more like nibbling on a short stack.
I don't even think it's about the numbers(in a vacuum, that is). Penner is just playing hard. He's overpowering players, he's busting ass back to the D zone to help break up plays. He's just playing real good hockey.
It's basically everything he's consistently been unable to do for a while. We'll see if he can sustain it, but it's definitely nice to see.
What baffles me is that he's 6'4 247, and he only has 10 hits on the season. How do you carry such an intimidating size, and not use it.
The hit stat is just as awful as +/-. Maybe even worse.
Regardless, Penner has never been the most physical player. The Ducks didn't sign him to throw big checks. They signed him to cycle the puck, win battles on the boards, and get the puck on the stick of Perry and Getzlaf. He's been good at that to say the least.
