Giroux is even mediocre on faceoffs this year. He's won 2 more than he's lost.

The only reason Giroux was ever good was because he was extremely passionate and competitive. Who needs that **** when you already signed a $64M deal?

Giroux was not benched in OT. He played the second shift with Lecavalier.

I don't think Mason really stood on his head. We threw 37 shots at him but I think 33 of them were right in the logo. Canes are AWFUL at challenging goalies. he made a couple strong saves but any of us here could have saved most of the ones he did tonight.

I honestly thought Couturier was one of, if not the best forward

Grossmann was very solid, would've been an 8 if it weren't for the tying goal.

Giroux gets a ton of heat but he still created more offensive chances than most of the other forwards. Last goal was pretty bad, maybe should be more of a 4

Was at this game... and it was utterly pathetic.

1. No one on this team plays with any energy or urgency. (exceptions are Rinaldo and Mason). Every player is guilty of coasting, even when the puck is on their tape. No one is held accountable for this either. In all seriousness, most of the guys were more energetic and lively in pregame warmups.

2. Sean Couturier is slower than Hal Gill. My GOD this kid is in the wrong league right now. I understand he is young but he has regressed sooo far from his rookie season. He glides around the ice and when the puck is on his stick he has no idea what to do. He just gets rid of it like a 38 year old woman in a D level rec league.

3. Watching Scott Hartnell / following just him for a few of his shifts... Holy Hell that is frustrating. He coasts around... isnt physical until the play is well beyond him, which takes him out of any backchecking role. He is just passing the time until his next paycheck and haircut.

4. The defensive zone breakout is .... there is no term to describe it. How many times did players just chip it out of the zone? There is absolutely no synergy to this phase of the game. Dmen are just lofting it up 15 feet in the air hoping it bounces to one of our forwards.

5. IMO no one on this team should be untouchable right now. That includes reduced ice time, relegation to the press box, or trade. Holmgren should be fired at the end of the season. He has sorely misjudged the talent on this team.

Darn, looks like I missed a real barn burner.

What was it that was posted after the Washington game? We'll see if they have hit rock bottom or will start drilling?

Yay, another STSNBN. The only deserving trade would be Mason to the Oilers straight up for Dubnyk. Let the worst goaltender in the league play with the worst team. Mason deserves to be with a team that gives a crap.

I said jackhammering, but they're definitely using the equipment pictured.

Canes fan here. I think both teams need to get together and go see the same sports psychologist. I think they both have the same problem- not a lack of talent- but a lack of leadership, and a lack of confidence that just keeps spiraling out of control.

Neither team needs to be blown up- they need to be forced to man up.

What's also accurate is that the ad I'm getting at the bottom of the HF Boards page is for Poo Pourri (http://www.poopourri.com). Great commercial, by the way. I think the surface of the WFC (which may well be reacronymed the WTF) should be covered in Poo Pourri.

I wish we could just trade Giroux like all our captains for someone like Subban. This team is not going to get better until we get a top flight dman. Our defense is atrocious. And how many times is Timonen going to take a penalty WHEN we are on a power play? Thats like the 5th time he's done it this season.

Don't know why anyone would think they would suddenly find their game after the Washington disaster just because they fought a bunch and Emery jumped someone. There's no proof out there that says a line brawl or fights in general lead to a turnaround in a team's play.

The best chance they had to turn the season around was after the Isles game and mid-way through the Ducks game. Destroyed the Islanders and actually looked promising doing it, played the best period all season in the first against the Ducks and had a lead in that game against a team that was 9-3. If that first period holds up throughout the game they're closing in on playoff chances and they have two wins against tough teams. Instead they crumbled and reverted back to this within the same game.

Fixing one hole by opening up another isn't a great idea, especially when our prospect pool is strong at D and weak at forward to begin with.

Giroux, even with all the crap he's getting and how badly he's playing, is still putting up points. This offense runs through him one way or another and he has far more talent then anyone else on our team. Also, statistically, this is really the only extremely bad season he's had at least offensively.

If we trade him for a young number one D our forward group looks like this:

Read-Lecavalier-Voracek
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds
Raffl-Couturier-Akeson/McGinn
McGinn/Rosehill-Hall-Rinaldo

That...is sad. Just a mish-mash of older vets ready to compete now, young developing players that aren't ready to compete yet, and young call-up type prospects. On top of that it's filled to the brim with guys that would presumably still be doing just as bad without Giroux as with him.

We would have even less scoring then we have now and we would be a sad bunch at forward if even one of Schenn/Couturier doesn't pan out and a flat-out pathetic bunch if both don't pan out.

I don't want to take that chance, especially when we're stronger at D then any other position in our prospect pool.
