The refs stop Lupul-Coyle before it even happens yet both guys get fighting majors. This is an absolute joke.

Did they take off their helmets?

Is it possible that bettman told the refs to try to stop fights this year, with all the

bad media press after the parros accident. Hes even said that the media was

blowing up a non story

Nope. Both had gloves on and maybe one punch was thrown.

Some player needs to punch the ref whenever they interfere a fight with two willing combatants.

It'd be easy enough to justify too. "We had our gloves off, and started to fight. I threw a punch and the ref got in the way for no reason. I obviously didn't mean to hit him. Hopefully he's ok"

Yes, it was a disgrace.

Not that I have heard.

Unfortunately, Emery is a good fighter, which is why he should have been suspended for what he tried to do to Holtby! I saw the game where Emery fought Peters, and it was a draw! You will need a Bob Probert type to fight him.

Refs do this for players trying to get involved in mismatches and have for years. Reason why is to avoid situations like Scott jumping Kessel in response to a thug picking a fight with a non-fighter.

Seems like there must be a directive coming down from higher up to head off potential fights this season...lots of misconducts being given out to guys who fight regularly, often it seems like just because they're on the ice against each other. Can't say I'm a fan of that at all. Refs have been real misconduct-happy the last few seasons, there's no telling what will get a guy tossed these days.

Yeah, the misconduct thing is dumb...Bordeleau was given 2 10 minute misconducts for talking the other night. Also saw linesmen grabbing guys during a fight in that game, which puts guy in really vulnerable positions...which is gonna cause more injuries than a straight up fight.

For the watered down things we are seeing in society such as pretty much EVERYTHING is considered harrassment or bullying in schools these days why does it surprise people that the sanitized world we live in spills into sports? One clock in the chin from a ref "accidentally" will ensure that they stay away when two guys are wanting to drop them. Let em go. They are grown men. Remember when Kevin Collins was the only annoying Linesman who broke up fights? The linesmen can't keep this up all year. They'll get sick of it. Heck, they went on strike just because Him Schoenfeld called Koharski a "fat pig". I am pretty sure they won't want to risk dental work for long.

You are somewhat correct, but fights between two willing combatants should not be broken-up. I am sick and tired of seeing two legitimate fighters wanting to fight, but the refs break-up the altercation and hand them a ten-minute misconduct. It is stupid, and occasionally the physicality will continue when the teams play against each other the next game, unless if they get a warning from the league.

I've noticed that refs are trying more and more to be a factor in the game. if the league can hand out suspensions to players, the NHLPA should be able to dish out suspensions to refs. Its pretty well known that the league ordered the refs to break up fights once helmets come off, which is playing a huge role in early stoppages, friggin sucks.
