They can have Meszaros for just one of those second round picks.

Otherwise, they can get lost.

I'll give you that. Coburn for the most part is better than 3 2nd rd picks, most who will probably never make the team.

But a first overall, and the Oilers first overall? That could've been nice. Darnell Nurse or Ristolen. Or hell, trade the Oilers & Flyers and get into the Top 3 for Jones.

You can argue the 2nds, but a Top 3 overall pick? God no, he's not even close to that.
He is more of a valuable commodity than people on here give him credit. There was one year where I wanted him gone and I agreed with the nickname Slowburn...but I haven't really come close to feeling that way since. I felt he's gotten too much a bad rap and under Lavi not sure it was an ideal situation especially last year when he was expected to take on a more prominant role and fill in some of Pronger's skates...tall order for anybody. This year with Berube I think he will establish more consistency but I expect the fad hate to continue until we let him walk for 3 mid tier Goulbourne type picks...

MacT has already got a rep round the league as a guy who tries to just give the other team loads of crap for one or two real pieces until they laugh at him and tell him to **** off.

And then the exact thing happened to him with Smid! That made me laugh.

Just read he has came out in the last hour or so saying he is willing to trade the 2014 1st.

Mac T hit the wrong speed dial number on his phone.....he forgot to edit Howson's number and got it transposed with Holmgren.

Seriously..if Holmgren made that trade every single one of my posts would have an asterix...

* Holmgren you idiot

At a glance Edmonton's drafting outside of the first round looks really bad. No wonder they have nothing on D.

They are the worst managed team in the NHL. They need to clean house like the sabres. 3 coaches in the last 4 years? How are you going to develop those young players with management like that?

I forgot about the coaching turnover. Yeah, that's also really detrimental.

Sometimes I'm astonished how often Coburn is skewered on these boards. The guy plays tough minutes so of course he's going to have some gaffes. I think because we lack a number guy people look to him to be that guy and he's not. He's still a very good defensemen in this league. He is the only guy on our D that can skate and recover. I'm so glad the Flyers started drafting defensemen who can skate with Ghost, Hagg and Morin.

He's very good sometimes. He has been maddeningly inconsistent.

I'm not going to make excuses for some of the bonehead plays he makes sometimes but I think the fan base rides him for being inconsistent because they are measuring him against other teams number ones. If you polled the rest of the league about Coburn the vast majority of them would love to him in their top 4 rotation.

The Oilers are like the Cleveland Browns of hockey to me, I'm not so certain if I'll ever see them be consistently good in my lifetime.

A top 4 defensemen for three 2nd round picks is horrible, in my opinion. This isn't a video game where you just have to match values on each side. Hope Homer came back at him with four 2nd round picks for Eberle.

Oilers offered three 2nd round picks for Braydon Coburn at the Draft and couldn't close the deal. Trades in season are much harder to make.

I wonder if they are still interested in him, but with the Flyers actually playing better would they even consider trading him?? Would you for a top 3 pick?
If they had of made that trade, I probably would not have purchased NHL center ice and not followed them this year. I been a crazy fan since i was a kid and never miss games, so that just shows how pissed I would of been.

I know I have said this before while I agree he is inconsistent I don't think he is Bad or good. I think he is good or very good but when he is very good it is maddening that he can't do it all the time. If he could do it all the time he would be Chris Pronger not Brayden Coburn.

Man it would have been really nice to trade Coburn for edmonton's pick and then using those picks trade up to get Seth Jones. If Coburn continues too play well, maybe we could use him to get Ekblad.

Coburn has been great of late, but he was a part of this team's horrid start. We can at least minimize the bipolarity on him. I'd love it if Coburn had actually put it all together and could play with consistency, but we've been there before and I'm not going to get my hopes up, at least just yet.

exactly BP. We have seen this before with Coburn. When he is playing like has the past week or so its hard to get on him. Maybe Berube is the type of coach Coburn needed to play the way everyone knows he can.
He deserved the criticism earlier this year when he was playing like a dog. Lately he has been fantastic. Consistency has been an issue with Coburn thru most of his career.

So the issue with Coburn... isn't so much Coburn, but more our lack of a #1 D-man and having to use him as one.

All i know is that if we traded coburn , we would have no one to physically match up with the best forwards in the game.

It was kind of like when the sixers had theo ratliff. yeah theo was not a center or even a great player but he was all we had to cover guys like shaq, dikemebe , mourning, duncan, garnett, wallace, webber, etc etc.
