IMO, Despres is a lot more than just AMac with grit. The kid has a ceiling to truly be a top pairing guy. If not top four with a lot more sound play than AMac.

Keep in mind I am not an AMac detractor. When you consider the guy is only a career -4 on some very bad teams, you have to appreciate what AMac brings. The guy is just being thrust into a role that he simply is not cut out for playing all those minutes.

That being said. I think you are selling Despres very short with that comparison.

Despres would instantly be the best young defender the Islanders have in their system.
I would say that is some very intense praise for despres...more than I would offer.

Im not going to give a full scouting report on Despres, he would be a nice addition, but he would not be the isles best young defenseman by any means. deHaan and Hamonic are both better right now, and it looks like the sky is the limit with deHaan. Reinhart may be the best young defenseman not in the NHL right now.

Like I said I would like to add a guy like Despres, but lets not pretend that he would be the isles best young defenseman.

Despres and de Haan could be a tremendous pairing. Despres brings the flash with his size and offensive ability, whereas de Haan is just extremely steady and makes the smart play.

While we're dreaming, I'd prefer Maata. (No offense intended by the "dreaming" comment.)

The move had to be made so he can get his legs under him after the injury, right? I recognize that stats don't tell the whole story, and I have not seen him play at Bridgeport this season, but 5 points in 7 games sounds pretty reasonable to me. I hope he is being sent down to get his conditioning back up as he is one of the few really physical D-men prospects we have (including Pelech).

It would make sense for Pedan to get some work at the ECHL level before rejoining the SoundTigers. He's had a tough year and missed a lot of time from the concussion. Let him work his way back up. He's a project anyway and probably needs at least another year or two before he'll be ready to contribute at the NHL level if he makes it.

My guess it's some kind of conditioning stint, probably will be back in Bridgeport fairly quickly.

I don't think Despres is that unrealistic if the Penguins really want Vanek. Despres can't seem to hold down a spot in the penguins lineup, and seems like hes in Blysma's dog house.

I'm watching the Wisconsin/Minnesota game tonight and have been completely unimpressed with Cammarata. On the other hand, I liked what I saw of Jake Bischoff until he got hurt by a blind side hit behind his net.

There are some very good prospects on these teams. If the Isles are talking to the Kings about a Vanek deal I hope the name Hudson Fasching has come up. Good looking player who I was also impressed with when I watched him play in the WJC.

If they are talking to the Ducks, Nick Kerdiles would be a player I'd strongly consider in a package.

The Sabres, who have strong defense prospects in Zadorov and Ristolainen have another gem in Jake McCabe who plays a pretty mean game.

Watching the Minnesota - Wisconsin game. Bischoff probably has a concussion.

Cammarata was on the ice for the go ahead goal for Wisconsin. I wouldn't blame it on him as it was sort of a broken play and then a shot from the blueline. I like his hands a lot. He also seems to be playing on a second line, but gets to play on the pp point on the first unit.

This is pretty inaccurate, IMO. Despres has never shown a lack of hockey IQ/awareness in the games he's played at the NHL level. Not once have I seen him and thought, "Geez, if only this guy had a brain, he'd be a star". The only knock on him is consistency (not even effort, but just consistently doing the simple stuff instead of forcing plays), which he's improved tremendously on.

What I'm reading is he can't stick in the lineup, not because of his physical tools, but the mental side of the game. I admit I don't see hgim other than when the Isles play the Pens so I got off of what I read.

Regardless, I've just never been a fan.
