Current D Men Numbers/60(Behind the Net)
I like the per 60 min played because it evens it out. It doesn't account for quality of competition but I can add that stat too. (5x5 play)

PlayerPts/60 Goals Against on ice/60 Goals For On ice/60 QOC Relative Corsi
2 .76 2.47 2.82 .365
3 .90 2.82 2.76 .487
4 .39 3.21 2.43 .200
5 .70 2.82 2.95 -.228
46 .98 2.81 2.57 -.494
62 .99 1.87 2.86 1.048
65 1.67 3.29 3.06 .596

Now a few forward stats.
PlayerPts game/60 Goals Against on ice/60 Goals For On ice/60 QOC Relative Corsi
19 2.74 4.15 3.49 .221
9 1.72 4.15 3.16 .268

Some surprising things:
- Gryba's numbers are quite good
- Cowen's numbers are good

Some things we already knew:
- Phillips is abysmal
- Karlsson is high risk, high reward

Why are people surprised Gryba's numbers are so good?
He's sheltered but his stats have been great all season. Our only + d-man.

Cool stats though. Wow Phillips is not looking good. Better lock him up another 2 years

Yes, I liked Gryba's game in the second half of the year.

Gryba has been solid second half. Karlsson's GA/60 is highest cause he was with that abysmal 19/9 tandem.

Karlsson has been pretty bad defensively

incredible how he gets so many free passes.

He gets beat infront of the net and wide a lot of times

argh... that was painful to read.

For those saying Gryba might not look as impressive on these tables once you account for QOC, he has the highest. It might not look pretty, but he's playing within his limitations and getting the job done.

Not really surprising Gryba least goals/60, he plays very simple. Karlsson with most goals for and goals against isnt surprising either, amazing offensively but lost defensively. I also believe he is one if not the biggest offender of "cheating" defensively per the other thread.
Really surprised about Methot since he was paired with Gryba for a good stretch of games

Not sure what people think Gryba is being sheltered from... maybe offensive opportunities?

Gryba has the highest +/- QOC, highest Rel Corsi QOC and 2rd highest corsi QOC among our regular D.

He has the lowest OZ start %.

He has the lowest shots against per 60 (a very reasonable 28.4 on a team that averages 31.3 when he's off)

As a RHD, on our team he spends pretty much zero time with a puck moving defenceman; Methot is pretty much as good as it gets for him because when he's in Wiercioch is generally out. (sidenote; his numbers while paired with Wiercioch are fantastic, with 60%GF and 53.3% CF and pts/60 of 1.6 as of 14 Mar)

A quick look at his most frequent opponents and you'll see names like Neal, Krejci, Pacioretty, Crosby and Vanek.

Guy isn't pretty, but he does get the job done.

Wiercioch's numbers are unexpectedly awful.

Karlsson is having trouble adjusting to more defensive responsibility and playing against tougher match ups. He plays the most minutes, he needs to be better. Phillips is just bad. Cowen is a black hole for offense but does okay in his role and Gryba has improved his overall game since last year.

I think giveaways and takeaways would be a good stat to include as well as goalie 5 v5 save percentage for context.

We have a ridiculously low budget compared to other teams and we are using stats that did not exist 10 years ago.

We are the Oakland A's of hockey...

Turris sure looks good with those stats. Especially compared to our captain.

Phillips/Wiercioch. PW's numbers are slightly better except in QOC and this is important. This shouldn't be too bad at home where we can match lines.

Theyre both pretty bad defensively but weircioch is 10 times better offensively.

Weircioch should improve defensively whereas Phillips should only keep getting worse defensively.

I never knew Cowen was good and has huge potential. The type of player that will never get any justice though. Hope he gets traded from this sad place.

Methot, Cowen and Gryba are our 3 best D-man defensively, they are better than people here think. The last 2 are a bit raw for the NHL though. Ceci is already not far behind.

Karlsson is high risk, high reward yes but he can be much better defensively. It will come with maturity in his game and when he puts his freak injury 100% behind him. He has been one of our worst D-men in the defensive zone by far but don't expect this fanbase to recognize this.

Wiercioch and Ceci are very young and inexperienced, need some ice-time

Phillips is in his last NHL steps and has been overplayed all season... due to the lack of experience on the back-end (and up front too)

Michalek, Spezza, Zibanejad, Greening and few others as well as the goalies (Andy in first half, Lehner in 2nd half) didn't help the defense much this year.

Except we didn't send anyone to check out the sloan analytics conference and have a GM who doesn't seem to use stats (cough* Phillips *cough)...
