San Jose following same pattern as last year

Last year San Jose started very well and then went on a loosing trend. Same this year especiallly the buffalo loss ( which they should have won with wingels "goal") then Vancouver what happens after the first 7 or so games. Weird!!

Correct me if I am wrong San Jose fans.

Thoughts?

Loosing trend, eh? Last years winning went on longer. Also, one loss doesn't signify a losing trend.

Sharks will be just fine this year. They'll be considerably less fine in the years to come, but this is just a blip.

Absolutely. Somehow, they will find a way to trade for Raffi Torres again.

Been hearing this for awhile, but it's just wrong. They have their core (Pavelski, Couture, Burns, Vlasic) signed long term and they have guys like Hertl, Hamilton, Nieto etc.

The demise of the Sharks down the road is exaggerated big time around here.

It's November, gotta love how HF overreacts over everything.

Every team goes through losing streaks.

It's an 82 game season where they've played 16. Even if you were given the same pattern, it's a longer season so how it ends up will not be the same. Last year after 16 games, they had 19 points. This year, 24. They're obviously a better team than last year to anyone who has watched them and their slump after the initial good start is not anywhere near as bad as last season. They'll be fine.

I do remember a lot of arguing about who was the better team between the Hawks and Sharks last year, the first month or so. It was a big debate then the Sharks kind of fell off and the Hawks kept rolling. The rest is history.

Another great start for the Sharks and again thrown into the mix as a top 3 team in the league, but again they have started to level off and fall back to the back(we think). Will they come back this year and finish as a top 3 team in the West or finish like last year around 6th in the west? I guess we'll find out.

What, you were expecting them to go near perfect all season?

Even if they do skid for a while. The Sharks are solid and once Burns is back, they'll be fine.

Well they swept the Canucks and had a brutally close series with the Kings.

They seem to have more depth this time around, and some their guys have gotten better (Vlasic, Couture, Niemi).

St. Louis is still my pick for the Cup though.

And some are declining with age (Boyle, Marleau).

Declining with that 40 goal pace. Good job, bro.

While the season starts look similar, in reasons for the early success were very, very different. The Sharks started last year on a tear on the power play and with unsustainable shooting percentages, so the statistical signs were there that the team would fall back to earth. This year they started out hot for the right reasons (5 v 5 scoring, ridiculous shot counts, good defense/goaltending), but recent poor play, injuries/suspensions and re-assimilating players returning from injury/suspension has hurt the team. The Sharks will be fine.

Only on HF would someone claim that a player on pace to score 41 goals (with a career high of 44 goals) is declining. Funny stuff.

Once Burns is back, we'll be better for sure. That said, we all expected a bit of a slump to happen eventually. We're still a very good team that just isn't clicking right now, and has had a little bad luck. Hopefully we have Torres back by the time the playoffs roll around.

Yeah... no. We've got a quiet but solid prospect group and a good young group of core players to build around. Our scouting staff is excellent and always manages to find gems. Our defence and goaltending is young and will be solid for the foreseeable future. Our young forward core of Couture, Pavelski, Burns, Hertl, Nieto, Kennedy and Wingels is nothing to sneeze at.

No the league out of admiration for such a feat just gives them the cup and cancels the 82nd game.

Sharks are fine for the remainder of this season and for the next five seasons. Excellent team build with a mix of great vets and young studs to keep the vets playing young, Sharks have always been one of the best built teams the last 5-10 years but sorely missed a top flight D man to get them over the hump but now they may have that in Vlasic.

These aren't your older brother's Sharks if anything they're more dangerous now than they ever were at any point in the past ten years.

Haven't won a single game since Havlat came back, obvious locker room cancer

But really the defense has been blowing it lately and Burns being out hurts a lot more than you'd think.
