Buff to Philly

This is the type of deal I think the Flyers need to make, not acquire more forwards. The Jets have lots of quality dman, the Flyers have lots of forwards. Buff fits what a Flyer is as well.

What would it take? I'm assuming Couturier would be included.

Out of all the proposals I saw, my favorite was B. Schenn, Simmonds and a pick. I'd be okay with both Schenns too.

We don't need more defense. Especially at the cost of offense that isn't performing.

I am not giving up two second liners for Buff, let alone any player really. It's an awful lot of offense(which has been sucking)to give for any player.

Right because Buff doesn't create ANY offence

I understand what he brings, just I am not giving up two second liners for a defender. That would leave the Flyers with an even bigger hole than before. With an offense that is struggling, where would it come from? You can only rely on Buff for so much.

Buff wouldn't be a target of mine if I was the gm anyway. No offense to him because I like him as a player, just not what we need. Flyers, like other teams, need a sure handed #1 all around defender.

So far this year, one goal. Yes, he has 11 assists, but the Flyers have nobody to put the puck in the damn net, so without a goal scorer coming our way, that number won't go up much.

Schenn brothers for Big Buff? Sure, just so I have a better reason to change my fantasy hockey team name to Jake and the Fat Man. Schenn/Simmonds/pick? Way too rich for my blood.

As for Couturier, please don't assume he's going anywhere. I want him to develop in orange and black, not somewhere else. Honestly, I see his upside as Guy Carbonneau with a better scoring touch (despite his development not setting the world on fire yet), and I think that's a hole the Flyers will have terrible trouble filling if we let him go.

How does acquiring a terrible dman who should be playing forward help the Flyers?

I have been adamant against all trades involving Buff to the Flyers, and I still am.

Wouldn't want him here quite frankly.

Yes you do. The transition from defense to offense in the form of a young puck moving/puck-control defenseman (which is sorely lacking) is part of team defense.

The Flyers have an abundance of forwards, quality ones at that. To think they won't come around this season is quite short sighted IMO. Sure the Flyers have a bunch of dman, but none that are more than a #3/4. Perhaps you move Couts, Coburn and a 2nd?

Offence typically is generated from the blueline. The Flyers philosophy of constantly adding forwards over the past several years hasn't helped, I wonder when they are going to realize that? I think something like this is the kind of shakeup they should be looking at to get back on track.

Trading Couturier and/or B. Schenn for Byfuglien is not the way to go for the Flyers. They are having trouble scoring right now but they have to show patience with their young forwards and let them take their lumps.

Teams that are struggling and in a bottom 5 position, should not trade players that are under 25 and were top 10 picks.

Well he would be the Flyers best defencemen, so yeah, acquiring him would help, depending on the cost of course.

Flyers have an excess of defenders, so a defenseman contract would need to go back in any deal for one coming in. And the Flyers are looking for a legit top pairing defenseman. If they're interested in a Jet defender, it's going to be a Trouba/Bogosian, not a Buff.

But tell me what's more valuable, playing Couts on the 3rd for the next 4-5 years, or using him to acquire a top pairing dman?

If he was gonna play top 6 well then I get it, but he'll never fully develop playing where he is.

He's not going to return a top pairing Dman on his own. I don't see what's wrong with a 20 year old center playing with guys like Matt Read and Steve Downie as his wingers.

Doesn't Buff play the most minutes on the team by a long way?

They are already developing him.

He's 4th in ES TOI/gm behind Giroux, Read and Voracek.

He's 3rd in SH TOI/gm behind Read and Hall.

He's playing on the 2nd PP unit.

He's 3rd on the team in TOI/gm behind Giroux and Read with 18:17.

He's getting top 6 minutes. Not sure what you're talking about.

I think, whoever keeps posting fat, lazy buff too the flyers should be banned!

Is Couts not playing 3rd line?

I would REALLY appreciate if fans of teams that aren't Winnepeg and Philadelphia would stop making Buff proposals. It just causes a thread of arguments every single time.
