I know Devils fans aren't very high on Kovalchuk right now, but really?

Kovalchuk is an amazing player...but he never really fit in Jersey. I know that sounds crazy, but to fit the NJ system he had to become a different type of player. To his credit he tried. It was just a bad marriage from the beginning. He deserved to be in a more free wheeling offense and that wasn't Jersey.

This is a testament to how far Jagr has come since his "immature" "Man-Child from Kladno" days.

He continues to be an offensive force game in game out and has been playing a very good two-way system oriented game.

I get that, but to say a 41 year old Jagr is more talented than Kovalchuk in his late 20s is just absurd.

I didn't take his post to be saying Jagr is presently more talented than Kovie. Just that Jagr is a much better fit for Jersey. If he was saying what you suggest, he's flat out wrong.

Wish Jags would've stayed in the NHL instead of going to the KHL. Easily a 2000+ point player.

Oh Jagr is a more Devil player then Kovalchuk ever was. The way he retains puck possession his vision, his playmaking, his goal scoring . Its just jaw dropping.

I will continue to be astounded by how good he is... It will be even more impressive if he can keep up his pace.

Jagr has much better hands and stickhandling skills even at the age of 41 than Kovalchuk ever did.

His speed is what left him.

I will make it easy for you:

His speed is gone but the way he protects the puck with his body is just amazing. Damn near impossible to steal it off him

He's not that slow really. You cannot expect a 230 lbs 41 year old to skate as fast as he did when he was 25 but he's not really as slow as some say he is. Speed hasn't been a part of Jagr's game since his Pittsburgh days, that was 12 years ago.

There are tons of slower players than Jagr, but not many have better hands than he does.

Well if Jagr ends up being a PPG player, he would have done what Kovalchuk did for the Devils, only difference is Jagr doesn't expect to play 26 minutes a game and act like a diva.

41 - turning 42 in February. If he is still playing well but the Devils are out of contention by February, he could fetch a mid-round draft pick. Also, that Jagr has done so well playing almost his entire NHL career in the rough-and-tumble Eastern Conference is another feat. I'd be surprised if he didn't get another 1-year incentive-laden deal after this season.

I have no doubt he would be 2nd all time in points if he had stayed in North America and there was no lockout.
