I actually fell asleep during dark city. Granted, I was incredibly tired. Still, tho.

Surprised there's no love for Prometheus here. Thought it expanded and even improved on the original alien movies (hahalolzgotcha)

I watched the last 2 episodes of True Detective without falling asleep. I'm making progress.

Just when I thought I was desensitized to everything..

AntiChrist

a Lars von Trier film

Still makes my gut churn and my head spin...three weeks later.

I hated Dogville and Melancholia made me sleep. Breaking the Waves was...curious...but Lars went deep into the madhouse for this one.

Not easy to find...and it really shouldn't be.

Anyone up for a top 5 sci-fi movies of all-time? I'll think about it.
5-District 9
4-Solaris
3-Wrath of Khan
2-Blade Runner
1-2001

My guilty favorites, Twelve Monkeys and The Fifth Element.

Top 5 Sci Fi
no order for top 4
Blade runner
Total Recall
Alien
2001

And one of these for 5th
Predator/Robocop/Akira/Ghost in the Shell

Also, agree that Untouchables is kinda average at best, and overshadowed by better crime movies of the times, for a reason. The score on the other hand.. well it's one of the best composers to bless us all with his talent; kind of a crime to talk **** about Ennio.

Top 5 sci fi.

1. Terminator 2
2. Looper
3. Blade Runner
4. Inception
5. Matrix or Prometheus...yes Prometheus, loved that film. I'm sorry for the film aficionados here.

HM: Twelve Monkeys, Avatar (yes, I loved Avatar), Tron, Alien, Aliens

Does Children of Men count? An incredible film.

I see Akria mentioned often. Is it that good? I'm kind of hesitant to watch it.

By the way, the animated flick The Dark Knight Returns Part I is FANTASTIC. 10 on 10. Part II is okay. Part I might be the best Batman film I've seen...on par with the Dark Knight. The score and tone of the film is amazing.

Promotheus was trash man, total illogical progression and confusing vagueness. It wasn't 0/10-would-not-bang but it was still bad.

I hate ranking movies in lists.

After watching thousands of movies I still find it impossible to scale them in a ranking chart since all the movies that I've really enjoyed are all unique in their own way.

I find no use in deciding whether Blade Runner is better than The Empire Strikes Back or not.

About Game Of Thrones... I've read all the books and you learn so much more in the books and it's much much easier to separate which characters are linked to which families etc. Of course it's always been like that in books. You see way more stuff than in the tv show but if you think season 3 finished with a bang... wait for s4... it keeps getting better and better. GRR Martin is a Genius

Also.. watched Blue is the warmest color yesterday. Great movie. Of course it's a slow paced story but the main actress was incredible. Don't Watch this with kids around. A lot of NSFW scene in this one. Some are borderline porn but I'm not complaining! just a little heads up.

While I'm going at it i'll list some tv shows I've seen that deserves some recognition.

The first three are my top 3 of all time... after this it's all mixed up.

The Wire (Be patient with this one, it's easy to give up after 4 or 5 eps but once you get familiar with all the characters, it's so good and very intelligent. There's no main character, the main charater in The Wire is Baltimore city)

The Sopranos (James Gandolfini is the MAFIA)

Breaking Bad (Everyone seen this so does this needs explication?)

Game of thrones: Read the book before, it will help a lot. I've seen people say it was not as well written than some other tv shows. This is wrong and you need to read the books to understand how deep and amazing it is.

Six Feet Under: It's been years since it ended so it's now off a lot of people's list but it's one of the best drama tv show of all time.

Oz: One of the first HBO show. You'll recognize a lot of familiar faces in this one if you Watch a lot of tv shows. Very good one too. 6 seasons and you don't leave the prison's wall not a single time. You almost feel like a prisoner when you Watch this.

Sons of Anarchy: It's good, i've seen someone says that it was not credible since bikers usually sells dope and they don't in SOA. It's a nice tv show but it's not in Sopranos, Wire, Breaking Bad's league.

The Shield: Good cop tv show but it looks pale if you compare it to The Wire. It is much more mainstream. Some plot hole but it's a good one to Watch too.

Deadwood: Amazing show. Must see this just to Watch Ian McShane as Al Swearengen. It ends abruptly because HBO cancelled the show after 3 seasons but it still deserves recognition.

Lost: Great show. Not in the same league than some other I mentionned higher.

Dexter: LOL It was amazing until season 5. THe first 4 seasons are very good. After it's all downhill.

Prison Break: A little bit like Dexter. Season 1 was in god mode. Then it all goes downhill too.

Boardwalk Empire: HBO = Quality. Boardwalk Empire features an amazing cast and a really good story. Some really likeable characters. Must seen.

Rome: Another show that was cancelled by HBO because it was too expensive to produce. Still really good!

Mad Men: Not for everyone. I really liked it but it's slow paced and it's drama. Very well written. Very dialogue oriented. Don't expect guns and blood but 10am scotch on the rock

Walking dead: Much more than just a zombie tv show. The only thing I kinda hate about Walking Dead is all the CGI Zombie deaths... sometimes it looks as painful to Watch than the polar bear in Lost.

If you haven't seen any of them. Give them a try. You shouldn't be disappointed. Just don't give up after 3 or 4 eps on some of theses shows. Some of them takes more than that to get going

I am not sure I could come up with a top 5 list for sci-fi movies. Solyaris is definitely my favourite though.

Last night I watched The New World. It was the extended cut, apparently. I couldn't hear a lot of what was said, like the voiceovers. At times I found myself kind of losing focus and I expected to be relieved when it ended due to the slow pace, but I guess something about it drew me in in the end. The music was really lovely. I am not sure that I would watch it again, but it was worth seeing. It seemed really well cast. It was good to see Christopher Plummer, albeit briefly.

True, I watched season 1-2-3 at least 2-3 times and I just started the books. Books are WAY better. More details, understood some stuff that didn't make sense in the show etc.

+ I always read all the spoilers so I know what's coming up in season 4 and I can't wait for it... to happen....

My thoughts about Game of Thrones.

Some great episodes but a lot of things are not making sense. I also feel that some stories take too long to actually happen, like the battle in Season 2.

Some notes about the series in general (keep in mind that I just finished Season 2) :

- HBO loves boobs, and so do I ;
- Too many characters I don't give a crap about, like Greyjoy or Daenerys Targaryen (I mean, dragons are nice but I can't wait until something actually happens to her. Also, the way her Dothraki husband dies is laughable.) ;
- Tyrion Lannister is the best character of the show ;
- Even with all the negative comments, I'll watch the third season. It's addictive and it's the type of ''turn your brain off'' series I actually enjoy.

Also, can't wait for the 6th episode of True Detective.

That's the thing about the show versus the books. If you read the books you understand a lot of the politics behind every move. We all love Tyrion from the show since he's played by an amazing actor but there's so much more you could notice if you would read the books. Like the Greyjoy's... they're more important than you think but HBO can't do justice to every character since there's too much to show from the books but if you haven't seen third season. Go ahead, I don't think you'll be disappointed unless you already know everything that's suppose to happen.
