yup...trade a top 4 d-man for 3 chances to find a player who might become an NHL player. Not very enticing.

Also, I MUST add this...just a few weeks ago Oiler fans were saying Coburn=Smid. I guess you were wrong on that one.

For Couburn (and other second pairing Dmen) 2 2nds is a fair market price. They offered 3 to entice the deal.

historical deadline deals for second pair Dmen usually have been something around a 2nd + prospect/2nd-5th based on their level of quality. that is usually for UFAs.

I am surprised Philadelphia wouldnt have countered with a 2nd + propsect Dman
+ another pick depending on which Dman it was.

Maybe because they care about trying to make the playoffs and trading away Coburn meant Mez gets regular minutes.

You arent going to get a high 1st for a 2nd pairing Dman. High 1st go for solid top pairing Dmen.

a low 1st (picks in the mid 20s) = 2 2nds.

Historically, Feaster also hates second round picks. Could've been him.

Why not take 10 seconds to check Coburn's stats on NHL.com instead of making a ignorant statement?

He leads the Flyers in ice time.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.h...Name=timeOnIce

And his replacement would have been Meszaros who is terrible.

I'm not surprised, Coburn was available because the Flyers were hoping to trade him for a young impact winger, they weren't getting that with 3-2nd round picks.

Why, second round picks aren't worth that much and without him the Flyers D would be even more awful.

Eh, Coburn is better than either Regehr or Murray--and is signed long-term.

I don't think you'll find many Flyers fans who wish the Flyers had taken that deal--and there are a lot of guys who aren't real fond of Coburn.

Which one of those 2nd round picks was going to step into the NHL this season and be an important piece on the blue line for a team that was supposed to be competitive?

Coburn has two modes: mean Coburn and soft Coburn. When he's playing mean, he's a #1 defenseman who can eat up minutes, move the puck, and play great defense. When he's soft Coburn, he looks like a guy with all the tools and no toolbox, and he's a #3 guy. Fortunately, he usually becomes mean Coburn in the playoffs. And right now, he's playing mean, which is partly why the Flyers have been improved over the past few games.

Coburn isn't even that great of a defenseman. Good #4, that's about it. Guy has a head full of spiderwebs.

He really started to find his middle ground. He's looked really, really good this year. I don't think we've seen the best of him yet.

Still think him and Streit should be our go-to top pairing.
