You gotta be kidding me, part II.

Seidenberg may not even be a NHL D, Umberger is nice but I have trouble seeing him replacing Koivu-Ribeiro-Bonk and him being an upgrade over them and the 20 is too far down.

This pick is a potential superstar people. You have to give the same to get the same in return.

Whatever. It's still a 3 for 1 bordering on overpayment, and its not as if anyone you're going to take at 5th overall this year is a franchise player. Oh, and Bonk??? LOL

Potential Superstar ...lets check the last 10 years #5 pick and see what History teaches us...

Draft # Drafted By Player GP G A Pts PIM
5 Tampa Bay Daymond Langkow 625 136 218 354 374
5 Dallas Richard Jackman 136 10 25 35 94
5 NY Islanders Eric Brewer 404 34 79 113 262
5 Anaheim Vitali Vishnevsky 334 10 30 40 312
5 NY Islanders Tim Connolly 325 46 99 145 152
5 NY Islanders Raffi Torres 111 20 20 40 81
5 Anaheim Stanislav Chistov 135 14 34 48 80
5 Pittsburgh Ryan Whitney 0 0 0 0 0
5 Buffalo Thomas Vanek 0 0 0 0 0
5 Phoenix Blake Wheeler 0 0 0 0 0

WOW ...so much for your potential, this above is the reality that you can expect, at best a 2nd line player, and not one Superstar.

/edit ...more info. last 'Superstar' drafted #5 overall was in 1990 (Jagr)

We were talking about #5 picks were we not?
you can find plenty of Superstars from any draft selection
...that is exactly the point ...nothing if a sure thing, you're number 5 can end up never playing a game, and the number 255 pick can be that years Superstar.

It depends on if you take the guy at #5 or your staff allows him to fall to 6 or 7. there's always some great players taken in the 5-10 range, some GM's are better at it than others.

I think Columbus may be more likely to make this trade from #6 than MTL at #5, especially if Kopitar and Ryan are gone at 6.

hmmm, brule, or Allen and either Skille, O'marra, Latendresse, Bourret, Staal, Hanzal...
Do you have a Crystal ball??? How could you know then Brule will be there? It's pure speculation...And Allen is a bust ...was he a fourth overall in 98...Geez...4th overall from a draft who gave Lecavalier, Gagne, Tanguay, Havlat...Anyway, it will not happen. Montreal will keep his pick or if they have the chance, trade up with Anaheim.

Maxim Kondratiev and one of our 2nds (which also could land a nice defender)

Supposing that I'm George Gillett and Bob Gainey, my team's general manager, makes that deal, I'd call for a press conference on the 31st at 7 am to announce that he is fired... hope that you get my point.

Only want to touch upon one of these comments, Allen is not a bust.

I sure as hell wouldn't want to lose Allen just to move up 5 places...
