If Handzus gets another contract the Hawks board will be a radioactive crater.

I think I would even get upset about it.

Zus' contract was a reward for what he brought last year and as backup in case we couldn't fill 2C (remember Saad actually had first crack at it). As for Zus, I totally respect him for what he played through last year and what he contributed to get his name on the Cup. And as it turns out we're going to need him again.

Can we make a rule that henceforth the prospect thread is a Handzus-free zone?

Or at least ban posts that use the word Handzus and contract in the same sentence?

Bout gave me a heart attack when I popped in here.

I was happy we brought him back on the cheap for a year. he's a great vet to have around. I'm not happy with how he's been used.

and at this point I think I would be disappointed if they brought him back again- he's still a solid player IMO, but he needs to be used as a defensive/PK specialist at this point in his career.

for the first time in awhile I feel like we will actually have a lot of options at 2C, certainly some better than others. but honestly even Shaw is an improvement

Even with a 'June 2013' join date, you've been here long enough you can't be that naive.

Is he playing with Ladislav Nagy? Talk about a guy with a ton of potential.

That gif showing that sweet assist to Moses was on a power play. Although Steve Moses has played on TT's wing a few times, lately it's been Nagy on one side and either Nichlas Hardt or Janne Lahti on the other wing. Moses is usually on the 2nd line.

I was surprised Nagy bottomed out instead of taking that next step and becoming a 70+ point guy. Ton of talent.

So Notre Dame won its first round Hockey East match to advance to the quarter final in a best of 3 against Boston College...great..battle of the Catholic schools.. Johns and Hinostroza vs. Hayes and Calnan. ..unfortunately we do not get Hockey East coverage from my perch here in Ottawa..we just get the NCAA games covered by CBS sports and by BTN. .guess I'll just have to view the highlights online from the Hockey East website... ALSO. ..Vermont advanced by beating MASS. ..now play UMASS -LOWELL in a best of 3 quarter final... You can view the highlights of the Notre Dame and Vermont wins in round one to get their advance to the quarterfinals...on the Hockey East website..Beautiful blast rushing in to a shot from the point by Paliotta...and 2 blasts from the point by Johns...one hitting the post and another too hot to handle by the BU goalie but not resulting scores. .then an assist by Johns on an ND goal...

Paliotta appears to be rising up the rankings this year. I had him pegged for a grade C prospect but is having a solid junior year at Vermont. Need him to develop at RD.

If those top three pan out as described, then the Hawks will be set at D and 2/3C.

I try not to criticize rankings too much, but putting Gaudreau, a guy who's a lock for the Hobey Baker this year, and 10 points ahead of everyone else in the league at #14 just seems wrong to me.

At least there are write-ups though. That's the real meat in prospect rankings for me.

Last I heard, he was playing in their bottom six and killing penalties. As a freshman who's capable of playing a physical, energy game, that's probably the best place for him until the upperclassmen move on.

Wait... KHayes is THAT good? I always knew him as a Center version of Jimmy. What is his elite skill?

Something to keep in mind with prospect rankings is, a lot of times they aren't being ranked based on how good they are now or what they're doing now but it's based on who's projected by that entity to be the best NHL player in five years (number of years is completely arbitrary, just using five as an example). Like a lot of scouting services put out their rankings, those usually aren't based on how good the player is now or where you're predicting they're going to be picked aka mock draft, but based on where you project them as NHL players, as if you're the one there on draft day and where you're pulling the trigger picking players. A guy could be a Hobey candidate now but is where he is now as a player his ceiling? Is there any more upside? His linemate may have less points and isn't as polished yet but still has mroe upside and will be a better NHL player because there's more development there. Not talking literally, just in generalizations and trying to put rankings in perspective. I can't speak for this particular ranking list but I know that's generally what the rankings are trying to accomplish.

Agreed tough to rank based on the here and now or ultimate projected upside. Gaudreau is interesting b/c hes so small. Does ok at the college level but what happens when he goes to the show which I have no doubt he will. Is he going to be another St. Louis? Also interesting is if BC didnt have Gaudreau with Hayes and Arnold, does Hayes still post the umbers hes getting this year? Gaudreau is the engine that moves that line so it will be interesting to see what Hayes does playing without someone like Gaudreau.

Hayes is 3rd in scoring this year in his senior season. Is he that good? As I posted above, it will be interesting to see what he does without Gaudreau. Hes playing wing. Bill Arnold is the center. The Hawks may try him at center but if you're not playing it in college in your senior season, it does not bode well for the likleihood of playing there at the next level.

Hayes has the higher upside for sure, but I'd bet the farm Gaudreau will become the better NHLer.
