McDonagh-Girardi after all the **** I've been giving them as a pairing seems to have had a dominant game for once. Great indication, if they can keep this going I would even condone re-signing Girardi.

Though I don't get the praise for Falk, the Falk-Moore pairing started almost all of their shifts in the offensive zone, yet were badly outshot. But I didn't have the opportunity to watch this one so maybe they were at least decent. I still think there is likely a big amount of confirmation bias regarding the praise for Falk in this thread.

We also seem to have outplayed the Habs pretty badly (63% Close), if we can keep this going we should be able to challenge for #1 in the East. Especially if Nash gets back into the lineup soon.

Apart from the fact that the score was close throughout the game and that the win was in some sort of jeopardy, this seems to have been pretty much the perfect game!

Keep this going!

Falk was very mobile and though a left shot played the right side. He was instrumental in keeping the play alive in the Montreal zone on several occasions. Good gap control. Made the safe play when pressure was on him. He was mean in front of his own net. Didn't fumble the puck even once that I can remember and he was on his backhand a lot.

QFT. I do think Talbot will eventually bounce back to earth and not continue to play like a #1 netminder. But for right now I hope he keeps it going as long as he can.

I think that's a little generous...Falk was fine out there...no worse than MDZ on a typical game. Didnt bring much offensively and bobbled the pucks quite a few times...but im thinking the ice was terrible since i saw quite a few bobbles of the puck....

He was fine for a #6...i think the real problem is John Moore is such a high risk player that pairing him AND MDZ together is a catastrophe waiting to happen, whereas Falk is a low risk player making Moore look much better...

I still dont get why the 2 of them are paired together. Put MDZ on his natural side, pair Moore and Stralman with Staal and MDZ...you'd get much better balance that way.

Every Ranger except for John Moore, Justin Falk, and Brian Boyle came out ahead in possession tonight. Of particular note: the McDonagh-Girardi pairing was strong (66.7% and 62% CF%, respectively) and the Kreider-Stepan-Zuccarello line (63%, 60.9%, 66.7%, respectively).

By my calculations based on that interval, the next shutout in Montreal is August 7, 2060. Weird as that sounds, perhaps the season will indeed be started in August.
And wouldn't you know it, August 7, 2060 is also a Saturday. I can't wait

Nah, we're gonna win the next 7 games in Montreal.

Also, the Rangers play in Montreal again this season. It's the last day of the year. Legitimately hoping that game doesn't mean anything in the standings for us.

I though Falk made some nice plays. I was surprised when I saw his 34.6 CF% on Extra Skater at the end of the game. He'll probably be in the lineup tomorrow because they won, but I'd be in favor of putting Del Zotto back in.

i know the rangers are normally horrible at the bell center but yall played great tonight, could of easily finished 3/4-0 if it wasnt for Price
Nice post, but can you explain the juvenile booing the whole game? Seriously the fans at the Bell Center act like a bunch of kids sometimes.

Hank, Cally, Girardi, Staal the only players on the roster who were there for the 5-0 meltdown

Was it Chris Lee that called that Subban sell job?

btw, just a quick note...

did anyone see that shot that Subban had on one of their PPs? I knew he could bring it, but that shot was one of the hardest in game shots ive ever seen in my life...he let it go and it went by everyone before they even moved and nobody had the slightest clue where the puck was even though it looked like it didnt hit a single person on its way through....just a mammoth shot.

I mean I couldn't catch the game so I can't make judgements and possession stats aren't everything, but that low a percentage with that ratio of zone starts (7-1-1) does seem hard to explain away.

But I was hugely impressed by the possession stats McD-G managed to put up considering how awful they've been previously. If they can be 50+% while Staal-Strålman continue their 60+% play we are golden almost no matter what the 3rd pairing decides to do.

Agree that DZ belongs on the left side. Falk in his one game looked like a better right side option than DZ. He's a better skater. He's definitely bigger, meaner and stronger.

At least tonight that infinite loop of frustration was halted. A fresh start? That will only be verified through hindsight, so hopefully a year or two down the road we look back and can say that a win at Bell Centre is actually expected.
Nothing lasts forever, and hopefully this is the end of Bell Centre and the Habs partying it up so consistently, without fail, at the Rangers expense.
